Great Grandmothers Gingerbread
(Recipe is over 100 years old.)
1/2 cup cooking oil
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
1 cup dark molasses syrup
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 cup hot water
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. XXX sugar
2 eggs
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted well
1/2 tsp. salt
Grease pan with cold Crisco. Sift flour in it and beat it out and it will never stick. Cream cooking oil and sugar. Add beaten eggs, molasses, then dry ingredients, which have been sifted together. Add hot water last and beat until smooth. Bake in pan 2 inches deep and 9 inches long 40 to 45 minutes in moderate 350* oven. Serves 15.
