OLD TIME STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE


6 cups fresh strawberries
1/4 cup sugar
2 cups, all-purpose flour
3 tsp, baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/3 cup Crisco
3/4 cup milk
1 Tbsp.oleo, melted
1/4 cup sugar
1 cup, whipping cream
2 Tbsp, sugar

Heat oven to 450*. Stir together strawberries and sugar; set aside. Grease round pan, 9 X 1 1/2 inches. Mix flour, 2 Tbsp. sugar,the baking powder and salt. Cut in shortening; stir in milk. Spread in pan; brush with margarine. Sprinkle with sugar. Bake until golden brown, about 20 minutes. Remove from pan; cool slightly. Split shortcake to make 2 layers. Whip cream and sugar until soft peaks form. Fill layers with half the whipped cream and strawberries. Top with remaining whipped cream and berries. Makes 6 to 8 servings.
