New Bon Jovi Due Next Fall

Band also readying twentieth-anniversary box set

Bon Jovi are set to begin tracking their eighth album and follow-up to 2000's comeback success, Crush. For the album, tentatively titled "Bounce," the band will again call on their Crush cohort Luke Ebbin to co-produce (alongside singer Jon Bon Jovi and guitarist Richie Sambora), in Los Angeles' Henson (formerly A&M) Studios and at Sanctuary, Bon Jovi's home studio in New Jersey. Thus far they've penned twenty-six songs -- among them the front-runner for leadoff single, "Everyday" -- and expect to write considerably more before the process is through (sixty tracks were written for Crush). No firm release date has been set, but Jon Bon Jovi says he's eyeing September of 2002.

Bon Jovi also says the new album is thematically "very upbeat" -- the working title itself references, "the bouncing back of the band as well as this country" -- and a big handful of the tracks themselves are ripe with September 11th imagery. In "Another Reason to Believe," he sings, "Love lives in New York City/He got a place off of the Park/I saw him standing in the ruins/And in his hands a broken heart/It was him that was running up that stairwell/When the sky came falling down." In another new tune, "One," he sings, "That was my brother lost in the rubble/That was my sister lost in that crush/Those were our mothers/Those were our children/Those were our fathers/That was each of us/A million prayers to God above/A million tears make an ocean of one."

Not surprisingly, the events of that day marked a major turning point for Bon Jovi, something he hopes the band's new album will reflect. "People are going to finally stop and take notice of the wasted time we've spent over the last twenty years doing a whole lot of nothing," he says. "Creating movies and music and art that was somewhat disposable. If you were working on a crap movie the day that that happened, you sit back and ask, 'Is this all I'm doing with my life?'"

That notwithstanding, Bon Jovi is currently in Los Angeles filming nine episodes of Ally McBeal, where he'll be playing Ally's hunky construction worker beau, Victor Morrison. The band will record around his schedule until filming wraps in February, at which point they'll convene at Sanctuary for more intense sessions.

Musically, the band hopes to further explore certain technological toys -- loops, beats -- it first tinkered with on Crush, but not at the expense of an organic rock sound. "We're playing a little bit more with that stuff on this record," Bon Jovi says, "but not over-exploiting it."

When they've completed their next effort, the band will get to work on an as-yet-untitled box set, celebrating twenty years of Bon Jovi (1983-2003) and, if all goes as planned, 100 million album sold worldwide. Although it's not yet known how many discs the collection will comprise, the singer says the band has "tons and tons" of unreleased material to discharge from its vaults. "I don't want to just re-release our catalogue," Bon Jovi says. "Hopefully people already have the catalogue. It's more about the cool stuff."

Richie comments on Olympics
Richie spoke to launch.com about the band appearing at the closing ceremony of the 2002 Winter Olympics. Here is an excerpt from the article:

He tells LAUNCH that their participation suggests that American audiences have come around to Bon Jovi in a way that the rest of the world did some time ago. "We've been in the consciousness, the world consciousness and the global consciousness, for a long time as an American rock 'n' roll band," he says. "Now it's starting to come around in America, so I do think it's quite significant. The band and I are very, very proud that we're getting asked to do all these things now, like we are a perennial American artist, you know? And that feels really, really good. I guess we've sold enough records--92 million records now or something like that--where it becomes relevant."

Public Service Announcements
On Thursday September 13th, Jon and Richie filmed two Public Service Announcements which were seen on VH-1. If you haven't seen them, here are the transcripts as provided by Backstage With Jon Bon Jovi:

PSA #1
RICHIE: When terrorists attacked the World Trade Center, they thought they were destroying a symbol of America. But the symbol of our nation is not skyscraper or a flag. It's the hearts of thousands of doctors, nurses, EMTs, fire companies and police batallions from all over the tri-state area that converged upon Manhattan to volunteer their services
JON: Those New York City police officers, firefighters and emergency workers, who were among the first to arrive on the scene and selflessed rushed to rescue victims trapped inside the Twin Towers, became victims themselves when the towers collapsed. New York's Bravest and Finest have proven to be America's Bravest and Finest. It's the hearts of these men and women that are the true symbols of America. Their sacrifices will not be forgotten, nor will the families they left behind.
RICHIE: You can provide financial support by calling 1-800-HELP-NOW. Or to donate online, go to www.redcross.org.
JON: That's www.redcross.org. Thanks.

PSA #1
JON: The tragedy we are experiencing in the wake of the attacks on New York and Washington is beyond words. The innocent mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, husbands and wives... the loss of life is unimagineable. Among the thousands of lives lost amidst the disaster at The World Trade Center are those of the police officers, firefighters and emergency workers who rushed to the scene to help... only to become victims themselves when the towers came crashing down.
RICHIE: Most of us will never know the names and faces of those who died... but these are the faces of a nation and they will not be forgotten. They sacrificed their lives to save the lives of others, leaving behind their own families. You can help these families and offer financial support by calling 1-800-HELP-NOW. Or to donate online, go to www.redcross.org.

Congratulations, Tico!
Lastly some happy news, Backstage With Jon Bon Jovi reports that Tico was married in Miami over the weekend. His bride's name is Alejandra.

Gossip from today's column by Mitchell Fink
Giants fans know it as a field of dreams. But rocker Jon Bon Jovi had a different kind of reverie about the turf at the Meadowlands. So, after his show Saturday night, when the fans had filed out, Bon Jovi grabbed his bandmate Richie Sambora and Sambora's wife, Heather Locklear, and a few others and out they went to the 50-yard line, where they chugged tequila until the wee hours. The show — the last of their tour — was taped to air Sunday on VH-1.

One Wild Night (2001 Studio Version)

One Wild Night video
On March 20, the band was in Los Angeles to make the video for One Wild Night. Here is an excerpt from Backstage with Jon Bon Jovi that describes the video:

The video centers on a live BON JOVI performance in an underground club full of folks dancing up a storm while the band performs the song (which is the ONE WILD NIGHT 2001 UK remix - it's different than the version on the CRUSH album.) The band and the performance is so HOT, the sprinkler system goes off and the place starts melting... all the while, there's a cyber-chic-geek making his way thru the club capturing the performance on a hidden camera that is getting broadcasted to the world... you're gonna LOVE it. It was filmed on a lot out in LA (in fact - the same stages where the TV shows Empty Nest & The Golden Girls were taped!) The video was directed by Nancy Bardiwal, who directed most of the Goo Goo Doll videos of the past few years - it's going to look VERY hot & sweaty & sexy & steamy & fun...

Jon on movie set in Mexico
Jon is currently in Mexico filming his latest movie named Vampires: Los Muertos. I found a link someone posted that had news reports on Jon and the movie, so I am adding it here. It is a Mexican website, and since I don't speak Spanish, I can't translate the text, however, there are pictures! Just go to www.elnorte.com and search for Jon Bon Jovi (using the white rectanglar box above the word buscar) to get news reports.
