REVIEWS LIVE CAMPUS BANDS COMP '03 If your looking for emotive guy-love in the form of poptastic and rocktacular tunes, Dissension, despite their cheerless band name, are your men. Although men might be stretching it a bit; the boys are young, clean shaven, and slight, and give off a whiff of RatCat in their stage presence. Their accesible sound has already landed them support duties for a number of high profile Perth acts during thier 3 year lifespan, using their wide repertoire of styles to adapt from gig to gig. -Grok Issue #6 2003 Wow our first real review, ironically for our last gig. Some of this confuses me a bit (i dont know if a RatCat comparison is a compliment or not), but it seems fairly positive. Although i think they just made up the last bit, i dont remember supporting any high profile acts. Or it could have been from a BS bio i sent them. -Andrew RECORDINGS 'SPACEMAN' EP Nice Work! I preferred the 'slower' songs as they were more melodic and had a bit more musicianship in them rather than the same old punk stuff that anyone can do (yes i know that is quite a big generalisation but...). Good to see the guys getting their stuff recorded and available as some sort of finished product! I guess with time they will develop a bit more variety in their songs - i.e. differing styles and vocals etc. etc. Id like to see them getting out there and seeing as many acts as possible and drawing ideas etc. from them and then incorporating that with their own. Yeeha! -Lawrence This CD is good. Buy it. My favourite songs are 'Like it is' and 'Starla'. But everything on this CD is good because its all professionally done. Did i tell you it is good? Coz it is good. A good CD all round. Chock full of hardy goodness and good stuff. Good. -Good Man Dissension. What can you say about such a fantabulous band. For years theyve been entertaining the masses with their brilliantally crafted and majestic peices of rock and roll. Their previous CD rocketed to the top of the charts, launching the band into instant stardom. So can Dissension live up to the huge expectations that have been placed apon their shoulders with their second release? The answer is a definite 'yes'. With their new EP, 'Spaceman' they have actually managed to acheive what we all thought was impossible and release and even better CD than the previous self-titled effort. This will no doubt put the band in the same status as Nirvana and the Beatles. Songs like 'No Mystery' and 'Insomniac Girl' are destined to become timeless classics and will be played at Graduation Balls for years to come. Russells drumming shines brighter than ever before on 'Fantasy' and will have all other tub bashers drooling with jealousy. Peter's guitar work and Seans bass brilliance is even more refined and ingenious than ever before and with lyrics like 'How did i get here with out my car?', Andrew has ensured he can compete with the likes of Dylan and MC Hammer as the best lyricist of all time. Best album of all time? Maybe. Actually........yes, best ever recording. Ever. Best band ever.......most definitely. I love them. Destined for big things these fellas are. Do yourself a favour and have 'Fantasy' playing at your next wedding. Its a great party tune. My dog likes this CD. Woof Woof Woof. Her fleas like it too. 'Yipee' they will say. 'Communism for all and to all a good night.' Im not crazy. -A very prestigious reviewer for a well known newspaper The world is a vampire -Billy Corgan Dissension is a serious listen. I love it. All my friends love it. We all love it! -Anon This is THE number 1 song to listen to with a little Whoopy Water, just make sure not to mix it with those 'pickeled gherkins'. Squidly-poink on everyone! -Fraggle Rock If you want to submit a review, just email it to dissension74@hotmail.com. If we don't recieve some soon, we might keep writing our own. Back to Main Page |
