Stardate: 60298.1322
Setting: USS ANUBIS, Bridge
David stood outside of the command pit looking at the
viewscreen. The colors and images as the ANUBIS made
her way through warp space was always a calming effect
for the CEO. His 6'6" frame overshadowing the FCO and
OPS station had both officers glancing over their
shoulders.
"Not antsy are we Lieutenant?" Major Tam asked.
David glanced down. "Sir?"
"Antsy Lieutenant. Your first time in command? You
haven't moved from that spot..."
"...for the past 25 minutes" Lieutenant Lily Swanson,
the ANUBIS aOps replied. She was another one of the
transfers from the AVALON and was one time delta watch
commander before the change in ships.
"No... I'm just... getting my legs under me... I guess."
the CEO said.
"Just don't let it go to your head *sir*" Tam said
with a laugh, "the captain will want his chair back."
And with that comment, David glanced over his shoulder
at Captain Simmons' chair. He shuddered inside at the
thought that one day he could be sitting there... with
4 pips... or maybe another command.
**Focus on the job at hand** his mind said to him as
he stepped away from Tam and Swanson. His thoughts
drifted to the current problem at hand. Tracking the
FOOLs GOLD and Lieutenant Commander Enaii and her
assistant Nikita. It had been several days since he
last saw the ILO... which was a good thing. His life
wasn't a living hell... which caused him to smile. So
hie shifted his thoughts to the problem at hand... the Hirogens.
David remembered reading about the adventures of
VOYAGER and her travels to the Delta quadrant... and
their conflicts with the Hirogens. For their tenacity,
David admired them because they had the same attitude
as him. They never quit once a goal is in play... but
how they come about achieving it sickened him. He
hoped and prayed that a battle wouldn't happened
between them...but a small part of the CEO wanted it.
he wanted to test his ship's might against
them...because they were formidable combatants.
**Don't let James hear you say that** he warned
himself. He paced back and forth.
"Babysitting isn't the word" David mumbled as the
tactical officer's console bleeped.
"Sir... I'm picking up those odd readings on the outer
most reach of our sensors."
David turned and faced him. "Sensor ghosts?"
"No sir... they're the same readings Lieutenant Seth
picked up earlier. Shall we notify the captain?"
"No... *we* will continue to monitor the sensors" David said.
**Whoa... that felt good** he laughed inside, but to
play it safe, he called upon his guardian angel.
================================
=/\=Dawson to Commander Rikar.=/\=
Sabrina snapped upright in her chair rubbing her eyes.
**I don't see how Enaii does it** the ExO said to
herself, **and I can't believe *you* dozed off...**
"Shut up" Sabrina said.
=/\=Geez... I haven't asked the question yet=/\= came the
disembodied voice of the CEO.
"David... I wasn't talking to you" she replied, "what's
up?"
=/\=We're picking up those sensor 'ghosts' Rawyvin
detected earlier.=/\=
"Are they following along the same course?" the ExO
asked.
=/\=No... they're slightly off... course is 200 mark
113... directly off our port bow.=/\=
"One second..."
================================
David was standing next to the tactical officer when
Sabrina's image appeared. She looked like she had been
napping.
"So... what do you think?" David asked the executive
officer.
=/\=Can you tighten the bandwidth on the sensors?=/\=
"They're at maximum Commander" the young officer
replied.
=/\=Then you aren't prevy to the amazing powers of our
resident chief engineer=/\= Sabrina said with a wink at
the CEO.
"I thank you Commander, but it is what it is. We can't
pour anymore power into the sensors or we'll overload
them."
Sabrina huffed. Even thought David couldn't touch her
or actually feel her, he could feel the anguish
radiating from her frame. One of the privileges of
knowing her so well.
=/\=Continue to monitor them Ensign. Anything more,
notify Lieutenant Dawson.=/\=
"Aye sir"
David looked into the holographic green eyes of the
ExO and nodded towards the entrance of the observation
lounge. As they stepped aside, he frowned at her.
"You were sleeping... weren't you?" he asked above a
whisper.
=/\=Now... whatever gave you...=/\= and a long yawn
escaped the lips of the first officer, =/\=...that
idea?=/\=
David smirked at her. "Sabrina... you need some sleep."
=/\=What I need is coffee... stronger than you=/\= she said
with a smile, =/\=anyway=/\= she said changing gears and
from the tone in her voice meant that that part of
their conversation was over, =/\=what did your research
turn up?=/\=
"Well... Rawyvin contacted me earlier and he asked a
question that has serious merit."
Sabrina blinked. =/\=Well? ...and have you shot any of
your ideas past them?=/\=
"No... they're probably sleeping so I'll ask later" the
CEO replied and continued, "he went into detail as to
why he thinks the Hirogens are here. And it was far
fetched."
=/\=Not as far fetched as my question to earlier?=/\= she
said with a grin and David nodded.
"Yeah... but what he asked did get me to thinking."
Sabrina could see that look in David's eye. =/\=Uh-oh... I
don't like that look. That's the look you always get
before you get into trouble.=/\=
David shook his head. "Not this time. Think about it
Sabrina... if Hirogens did somehow find out about the
Mind Stone, they may not have been the only ones to
know. And not just who we believe to know... or who we
believe doesn't know..."
=/\=David... David...=/\= the ExO said and reached for his
arm and her fingers passed through and they both
shared a small laugh, =/\=slow down. First, don't get
worked up over what may or may not be.=/\=
"But shouldn't we put them on the list of suspects?
Even though they're known for hunting live prey, if
this Mind Stone is as powerful as its believed to
be... who's to say that they won't incorporate it into
their hunting rituals?"
It was Sabrina's turn to nod in agreeance with the CEO
and temporary commander of the ANUBIS.
=/\=You're right...=/\= and her voice trailed off as she
looked around David and he glanced over his shoulder.
=/\=Monitor?=/\= she said with a grin.
"Oh... well... I haven't entered the domain of your
wife since we've come aboard. I think she might not
like it if I were to come there."
=/\=You'd be surprised. But let's not push our luck,
OK?=/\= she said with a wink, =/\=if you need me, you know
where to find me.=/\=
David nodded, "Oh... and Commander?"
=/\=Yes?=/\=
"I order you to get some sleep. Even if its 20
minutes. Bed. Now."
She glared at the CEO. =/\=David Richard...=/\=
David wiggled a cautionary finger, "Don't make me come
up there... if I do I'm coming with warm milk." he said
with a toothy grin knowing that warm milk is one of
her weakness that only he knew about.
=/\=I hate you=/\= she said, stuck out her tongue, and her
image disappeared.
