"Miscommunication Issues"
Previous Post: "Seems That…"
/\/\/\
Stardate: 60298.1442
Setting: USS ANUBIS, Bridge
Having received the signal from the CEO, the
Romulan/Terran hybrid engaged the deflector dish after
having received the confirmation from their CO. The
concerned look on the Captain's face spoke volumes and
the glance that he had shot to the Sec/Tac officer had
confirmed that he had been hoping for the best while
readying for the worse.
Visions of the plan failing filled the CO’s thoughts,
and although none of the members of the senior staff
had been telepathic, those images had been shared by
most. The odds of success were less than optimal but
no one on the bridge dared to speak out loud of the
possibility of things going wrong for fear of making
it happen.
Waiting for baited breath, the CO scanned the
stations around the command pit, glad to see that
everyone was ready to act the moment the news would
come in. All that was left to do was to see what this
news would be.
The holographic image of the XO came alive at the
ILO's station as the result of the plan was observed
on the monitors of the ICG. =/\= The Hirogen ship has
altered route and is now on a direct intercept course
for the Orion Scout ship which powered up its weapons
almost at the same time. The reactions were different
but it seems that the plan has worked. We are not
detecting any signs that the Hirogens or the Orions
suspect that a third ship sent these signals. =/\=
Having heard the report made by the XO, the CO let
out a sigh of relief before addressing the one
responsible for this amazing feat, "Well done David,
now get your ass back up here. The fun has just
started and since we might need another of your
miracles I want you on the bridge."
The CEO wasted no time in replying to his Captain’s
order, sounding relieved, =/\= Aye aye sir, on my way.
=/\=
Using the holographic image that was present on the
bridge, the XO turned towards the command pit and the
man sitting in the central chair, a teasing grin on
her face, =/\= Sounded like he was not convinced that
the plan would work. =/\=
The CO returned the weak smile as he met the gaze of
the woman who was actually no there but several decks
above head, "I don’t blame him. I wasn't all that
certain that it would work but I suspect that you
believed in him."
The XO vigorously shook her head in denial, =/\= Are
you kidding? I had the staff up here ready to ping
every target in the system so that we could get the
advantage of a first strike the moment we were
discovered. Of course now that it actually worked, I
will deny this and the IGC staff has already vowed to
support my claim, so no one tell David any of this.
We beat the odds this time, so let's just be happy
about it and get our people off the planet. =/\=
A wide variety of chuckles and nods came from all
around the bridge as the staff resumed their work, the
first of numerous hurdles having been successfully
crossed.
Scanning for the positions of the three ships that
had been approaching, Lt. Seth seemed quite happy to
see that the VENTURE CAPITAL had taken the lead while
the Hirogens and Orions battled it out. Considering
the lopsided strengths and size of the two engaged
ships, the Sec/Tac officer knew that this delay would
be short lived. "Sir, we are now able to communicate
with Lt. Pravat using an audio line-of-sight signal.
Their estimated time of arrival to the orbit of the
planet is now 8 minutes."
Returning his gaze to the front of the bridge, the CO
went to ask for a comm. Signal to be sent to the
VENTURE CAPITAL but the order was pre-empted by the
Romulan/Terran hybrid who had already enabled the
signal after having made sure that the signal would
not be intercepted or distorted by anything between
the ANUBIS and the Ferengi freighter. "Lt. Pravat is
answering the hail sir."
Not surprised by the efficiency of his crew, Captain
Simmons stood from his chair and addressed the Marine
CO. "Glad to see you made it back, found anything
interesting during your travels?"
A hint of sadness laced the words of the Marine 2nd
Lt. indicating that things had not gone as smoothly as
they could have. =/\= We had a run in with a group of
Hirogen soldiers stations inside of a hollow asteroid
which we suspect was used for some sort of smuggling
operation. We found nothing pertaining to the Mind
Stone or Ens. Lea Summers. I will give you my personal
report as soon as we find a way to get back onboard
the ANUBIS without attracting any attention. =/\=
James could tell that something was bothering the
Marine CO but circumstances dictated that it would
have to wait. "I am sorry to say this, but your
return to the ANUBIS will have to wait. Cmdr. Enaii
and Major Nikita are currently on the planet surface
with a dozen Cardassian soldiers on their tail. We
cannot help them without revealing our presence.
Since there are already two Ferengi vessels in orbit,
your arrival should not raise too many questions.
Land and extract our people, we will monitor your
progress and move in to help should you need it."
The XO's voice was heard next as she took advantage
of the period of silence that had followed the CO's
announcement. =/\= Lt. Pravat, I am sending you via
the same channel all available tactical information
that we have been gathering. I hope it will help.
=/\=
After another moment of silence, the Marine CO
acknowledged having received the order and the
tactical information although not sounding all too
pleased about it, =/\= Data received. We’ll contact
you as soon as the extraction is completed. Pravat
out. =/\=
