Stardate: 60298.1454
Setting: USS ANUBIS, Bridge

Since Captain Simmons had given them their new orders, the Chief Engineering Officer, Chief of Operations and Chief Science Officer had worked at an alarming rate to make the plan suggested by the Shillian woman become reality. From a scientific perspective the idea had been an overly simple one in which the majority of the power contained within the systems of the USS ANUBIS would be for a brief period of time redirected to the metallic plates that formed the ablative armour that covered the ship. From an engineering stand point though the plan was as complex and problematic as could be, something that Lieutenant Dawson had known from the moment it had been suggested and came to further realise as he tried to comply with the task given to him by the Commanding Officer.

"Serenna," David said to the woman sitting across the command deck, "you'll need to take over the rerouting of power from the secondary and auxiliary systems."

"Why? What are you going to be doing?" The Chief of Operations asked, sounding a little upset about the additional workload being dumped on her by the Chief Engineer.

"Why?" David repeated, having already left his station at the back of the bridge on his way to the turbolift access port, "because I am going to have to personally supervise every single EPS conduits and relays on board this metallic bucket just to insure that they don't overload and rupture causing a chain reaction that would at best destroy a few decks and kill several good people and at worst blow us all to hell and back in the blink of an eye, that's why!" The engineer replied, the stress of the situation having been all too clear in every word and syllable spoken by the towering man.

Before anyone could comment or add to what the Chief Engineer had said, David had vanished behind the closing doors of the turbolift which was later followed by a strange thump that sounded like two pieces of metal crashing into one another.

"Turbolift 1 diverted from the magnetic tracks by over a full centimetre, but everything seems to be in order now," the half Human, half Romulan Chief of Operations said, having called up the status of the turbolift pod at her station.

A gentle laugh escaped from the Captain as he leaned back into his chair, easily imagining that the cause of the sound and deviation of the turbolift pod had been one and the same, and that this cause would likely require some medical attention sooner or later. At least David had been kind enough to keep his emotional outburst away from the general public and as much as the Commanding Officer might not have wanted to admit it openly, he too shared in some of the frustration displayed by Lieutenant Dawson. Had this not been a Federation ship trying to remain hidden or starting an intergalactic war the problem faced by the crew of the USS ANUBIS would have been easily resolved a long time ago. Alas the banner of Intel did not grant the ship or the personnel onboard any special latitude when it came to dealing with such situation, and truth be known it actually made the tasks more difficult which was why those asked to be in such positions needed to be carefully selected.

"Captain," the Chief Science Officer said, calling onto her the eyes of the Commanding Officer, "I have researched the specifics of the energy field surrounding the Breen frigate and have relayed the exact frequency that the ablative armour will need to be polarised at to Lieutenant Dawson in Main Engineering. In order to create a feedback surge powerful enough to overload the systems of the Breen ship, I estimate that we will need to sustain contact with the energy field for at least twelve seconds, or have the ANUBIS move in closer to the ship, or increase the amount of power sent into the ablative amour, and since we already know that the last option is not a possibility it leaves us with only two viable alternatives, the first being safer in regards to our being discovered but more dangerous in that we will need to sustain that power transfer to the outer shell of the ship for an excessive period of time which could cause some of the internal systems to become inoperative. There is also the possibility that the ANUBIS might suffer some level of damage from an uncontrolled energy pulse emanating from the Breen ship following the feedback since our shields will have to be deactivated for this operation, but I think that the odds of this happening are actually quite low since according to my research on Breen technology, such a reaction is highly unlikely."

The eyes of Captain Simmons opened to their widest for a moment as he thought to himself that he was thankful for having been sitting down. Of all the things that amazed him in this endless universe, the ability of the Shillian scientist to be able to say so much in a single breath continued to hold one of the highest places on his list.

"Lieutenant Serenna," the Commanding Officer said, still trying to process all of the data that the Chief Science Officer had downloaded onto him in a single breath, "progress report on our friendly neighbourhood engineer?"

"From what I can tell from up here," the Chief of Operations said, looking at her instruments to verify the information before she relayed it to the Captain, "it seems that Lieutenant Dawson has every able body in engineering working to insure that the power transfer proceeds as smoothly as possible. My guess is that he and his staff will be ready in no more than ten minutes."

"Good," Captain Simmons said with a hint of relief and hesitation, "let make this work and get back to the planet. I don't like the idea of leaving our people there without orbital support," the Commanding Officer added proving that although the situation at had was dangerous and uncertain his thoughts and concerns were still on those far away as well as near by.
