" Headaches Are a Natural Defence Mechanism "

Stardate: 60298.1530
Setting: USS ANUBIS, Bridge
The ringing in her head had stopped for the most part
allowing the Shililan woman to return to her duties at
the science station. On repeated occasions the Chief
Science Officer had glance over her workstation to the
floor that extended between the rear consoles where
the Shillian worked and the back of the station of the
First Officer thinking that the fall looked worst than
it had felt. Than again maybe not since her neck
still echoed from the pain that she had experienced
during the tumble, not to mention the soreness in her
back, right shoulder and wrist.
The Doctor and Medical Technician who had responded to
the call for medical assistance had certified the
Chief Science Officer fit for duty although there had
been a strong recommendation offered that the Shillian
report to Sickbay for a more complete medical check-up
as soon as time permitted. Given the little amount of
time that she scientist had actually spent thinking
about her little trek over her station had been all
the proof the Shillian woman had needed to know that
this had not been the time for her to visit Sickbay.
The situation both in orbit and on the surface of
TOLAR IV was rapidly changing and Captain Simmons
would need the combined efforts and skills of all of
his senior officers to make it so that they came out
of this without any additional problems.
"Sensors are picking up several beam downs from the
Hirogen Tracker," the Chief of Security said just as
the Executive Officer returned to the bridge, her
presence in the Intelligence Gathering Centre no
longer required thanks to the return of Lieutenant
Commander Enaii and her bodyguard. The strange and
unorthodox method used by the Intelligence Liaison
Officer to return to the ANUBIS had been a source of
great curiosity for the Shillian scientist, but the
head of the science department knew better than to
inquire about this right now. As great as the
curiosity of the Chief Science Officer might have been
it needed to be placed on hold while the crew of the
USS ANUBIS worked together to find a way to get Second
Lieutenant Pravat and the rest of his Marines safely
back home.
"Can we figure out a way to penetrate that ice shield
that is over the ruins?" Captain Simmons asked, the
frustration of not being able to use their sensors to
locate the Marines having started to get to him. The
USS ANUBIS had been built to be the apex of
Intelligence ships able to follow a single person
hundreds of kilometres away through some of the most
secured and heavily shielded structures known to the
Federation, yet a single wall of snow and ice had
rendered their instruments useless.
"I haven't had the time to perform a more detailed
analysis of the composition of the ice," the Chief
Science Officer began, figuring that she could at
least explain the why if not able to find a way around
it. "I mean it would be easier if I had a sample of
the ice but since I doubt that Lieutenant Commander
Enaii brought any back with her I will have to use
what little readings I have been gathering to
formulate a hypothesis that should account for our
inability to get any sort of readings from inside the
ruins. According to my research there is an odd
combination of minerals contained in the water
molecules that form the shield of ice covering the
entire ruins. Although I doubt that those minerals
are sufficient to stop our sensors from reaching
within, it is my belief that they do act as a sort of
natural scattering field that is reducing the
effectiveness of our instruments. Again without
having access to the ruins themselves of a sample of
the material used to build them, I can only venture an
educated guess but I think that there is something
inside of the building material that is also
interfering with our sensors leaving us with a
complete inability to scan the inside of the
structure. Maybe if we could find a way to melt the
ice off the ruins we could manage a limited scan of
the interior and locate Second Lieutenant Pravat and
the rest of his men."
"You know," the Chief of Security said, looking at the
Shillian woman with a less than inviting look in his
eyes, "you could have just said that our sensors could
not reach into the ruins. Would have been as accurate
and not proven to be such a waste of all our time."
As sharp and aimed as the words spoken by Lieutenant
Seth had been the Chief Science Officer had not felt
hurt by them, instead the Shillian had been made to
feel disappointed in herself for having once again
failed to "keep it short" as her Commanding Officer
had so often requested from the scientist. There had
been so much that the Shillian woman had wanted to
report on that she had simply not thought of better
organising her thoughts and words in a more direct and
relevant report.
"We might not have to try to find a way to penetrate
the ice," Lieutenant Serenna said from the Operations
station, the latest information obtained by the
sensors having appeared on her console. "Looks like
there are numerous people emerging from the ruins.
The storm is making it hard to get clear and precise
readings but I think I can make out the distinct
physiological signature of a Klingon amongst them."
=/\= Confirmed, =/\= the Intelligence Liaison Officer
said via her holographic image. =/\= Multiple signals
have been detected on the surface, one of them is
Klingon. =/\=
"Well?" The Captain rhetorically asked of the officers
on the bridge with him, "What are you all waiting for?
Get them back up here!"
