#463 - USS ANUBIS: Rikar: Day 4 - 15:45 ("Intercept")
==========
" Intercept "
(Previous Post was Chris's " Luck's End ")
==========
Stardate: 60298.1545
Setting: USS ANUBIS: Array Section, Deck A-4, Enaii's Office -> IGC
The young woman had requested some time alone with her life mate in
order to ask a simple question… how had she managed to escape from the
Cardassian ship? It had taken several seconds for the redheaded woman to gather the required courage to present the inquiry to the ILO, the ExO suspecting that the question and the answer it would require dealt with something that Enaii would more than likely not wish to speak about… at least not at the moment.
"Enaii… I wanted to know…" the ExO managed to push out, the rest of the
question having been interrupted by the voice of the half Human, half
Romulan Ops officer.
=/\= Bridge to IGC… =/\=
"Go ahead." The ILO replied without hesitation, her training having
allowed her to recognise the urgency in the woman's voice… something that in
all honesty no one else on the crew would have been able to pick up on as
Serenna seemed more than happy to portray the figure of a woman
completely in charge of her emotions.
=/\= Sensors have picked up the FOOL's GOLD… with 1 life sign onboard.
=/\=
"Xan!" Enaii softly growled as she rushed out of her office and back
into the IGC, her eyes scrutinizing the multitude of monitors to get a
visual confirmation of what had just been reported.
"I gather you were not expecting to see him out here." The young woman
offered as she followed the ILO back into the IGC, finding the sight of
Enaii having been surprised by *anything* something rather unexpected
and peculiarly weird.
"I was not expecting him to see him alive… the last time I saw him he
had his hands full with a bunch of Cardassians." The ILO explained as she
called up an orbital view of TOLAR IV and requested from the computer to
extrapolate the trajectory of the FOOL's GOLD.
"He's no fool… he's going to stir clear of the Hirogen ship and by the
same token will avoid us as well." The ExO figured out as she glanced at the
main view screen and saw that the heading predicted by the computer for the
small ship took it nowhere near them.
=/\= Can we disable the ship? =/\= The 2nd Officer inquired over the
comm channel obviously having realised that the vessel and its pilot could
not be allowed to escape.
"Not without telling the Hirogens that we are here… and before you ask
no we cannot beam Xan or his ship onboard the ANUBIS… the FOOL's GOLD is
equipped with a dispersion matrix that makes it impossible to beam anyone on or off." The ILO said, not having mentioned this special ability of the ship for the simple reason that it had not been worth mentioning… until now.
=/\= Sensors are not picking up any signs of this dispersion field.
=/\= The Sec/Tac officer pointed out from the bridge, his tone of voice clearly indicating that he believed that the field in question might not have
been activated due to Xan's rush to escape from the Cardassians… the
Jem'Hadars… or whatever else was down there on TOLAR IV.
"The dispersion matrix is imbedded in the ship's hull… I had more then
enough time to study its design when I was following him here. The
only way to stop him is to shoot him down." Enaii pointed out, her mind having
already figured out the only way as to how this could be accomplished.
As the ILO looked over her shoulder to the redheaded woman Sabrina
understood what needed to be done. The ANUBIS and its crew could not afford
letting the Hirogens know of their presence before the attack and if they
waited until after the assault the odds were that Xan and the FOOL's GOLD
would be outside of sensors range and on an evasive course that would make it
nearly impossible for them to pick up the trail. They would need to act and
act fast.
"Rikar to Serenna… I'll take care of Xan. I'll intercept using 1 of
the VIPERS." The young woman stated, receiving an approving nod from the
ILO who had already figured that this would be the only way to accomplish the
task.
=/\= Can't let you do that Commander … the launch of a VIPER would give
away our position to the Hirogens and take away our only advantage… that of
the element of surprise. =/\= The Ops officer explained with a certain
bluntness, knowing that something needed to be done but that the number
of options available to them had been extremely limited.
"The VIPER could be launched the moment the attack on the Hirogen ship
begins. The weapons' volley would blind their sensors long enough to
allow the VIPER to launch undetected. After that the Hirogens would have too
much on their hands to worry about a small Interceptor-Class vessel." The
ILO explained, pushing the timeline for the attack on the other ship in
orbit even closer.
=/\= Fine… but we should be sending the Major in… he is a more
experienced pilot. =/\= The half Human, half Romulan woman offered making reference to the ANUBIS' FCO.
"Sorry Serenna… But I am the only 1 whom we can afford to send on this
mission. I am well aware of Major Jong-Su's proficiency as a VIPER
pilot, but you need him at the helm of the ANUBIS if the attack on the Hirogen
is to be successful. The only other qualified pilots are James and Enaii
and both of them are needed here on the ship." The young woman countered
with, trying to convince herself as well as the everyone else who was
listening in that this was the only course of action available to them… which more than likely was the truth.
=/\= What about the assault on the Jem'Hadar's base of operations? I
doubt that you will be able to get back here on time to lead the assault
team. =/\= The Ops officer pointed out with the calmness and tone of a
Vulcan.
"By then the Hirogen ship should hopefully be out of commission which
means that either you or Lt. Seth can lead that team. There are multiple
people available to lead that team but only 1 logical person to pilot a VIPER
and intercept Xan before he slips through our fingers." Sabrina forcefully
pointed out. Although she knew herself to be right in all that she had
so far said, the young woman had not felt like she could simply order this
without receiving the support of the rest of the senior staff… or at
least the majority of them.
=/\= Understood… I'll inform the Captain. You have less than a minute
to get to the VIPER launch corridors. =/\= Serenna pointed out, indirectly
offering her support as 2nd Officer to the plan devised by the ExO and
ILO.
"Lucky for me I am only 1 deck away… I'll get back to you when I'm
there… Rikar out." The young woman offered before shooting a lengthy look at
her life mate. There had been a great deal of things that the redheaded
woman had wanted to say but this had neither been the place or time…
hopefully they would be able to see each other again… if not in this lifetime,
hopefully in the next.
