#464 - USS ANUBIS: Serenna: Day 4 - 15:46 ("Operation Assault, Phase 1")

"Operation Assault, Phase 1"
Previous Post: "Intercept"
/\/\/\
Stardate: 60298.1546
Setting: USS ANUBIS, Bridge
Dealing with emergencies and urgent crises had
almost become second nature to the Romulan/Terran
hybrid and the rest of the crew thanks to the
incredible amount of practice they had unwillingly
received over the last little while. If this was only
a taste of things to come, life under the banner of
Intel and more specifically onboard the USS ANUBIS was
not going to be in any way monotonous or repetitious,
something that the COO could learn to appreciate and
maybe even enjoy. The final piece of the puzzle was
to survive long enough to be able to talk about these
numerous adventures and predicaments they were going
in and out of at record setting pace.
Doing what needed to be done from the Ops station,
the Romulan/Terran hybrid quickly confirmed the
location of their CO to be on deck 24 in the
Navigational Main Deflector Control Room. Meeting all
of the deadlines they faced meant that she needed to
work quickly, so the COO decided on the most efficient
and rapid way to relay the updated information to all
by using a ship-wide channel. "Attention all hands,
report to battle stations, we will be attacking the
Hirogen ship in approximately one minute. All members
of assault team Alpha are to report to the transporter
rooms now. Capt. Simmons please report to the
bridge."
Imagining the combined reactions of David and Maya to
the announcement just made by the Romulan/Terran
hybrid, the COO came to not envy her CO's position,
leaving her hoping that the request to report back to
the bridge would be enough to save him from the bulk
of the two officer's discontent. The Chief of Ops
doubted that the reaction of the CSciO would be
anything to be overly concerned about, but the
potentially volatile nature of the CEO's outbursts was
another story. That said though if anyone could
weather that storm, Capt. Simmons was that person.
Looking back to the center of the bridge to get a
confirmation of readiness from the tactical station,
the Romulan/Terran hybrid caught sight of the vacant
CO and ExO positions making her feel a little
uncomfortable. Being in charge of the bridge under
normal circumstances had never been a problem, but the
current situation was anything but normal making the
COO feel an increasing level of apprehension growing
in the pit of her stomach, a feeling that she did not
allow to be displayed on the outside. Displaying any
sort of misgivings or hesitation would serve no
purpose, something that Serenna had learned early on
during her Intel training back at the Academy. So
focussing her thoughts on the tasks at hand, Serenna
cast her gaze on Rawyvin who met her eyes and with a
quick movement of his head he confirmed that the
tactical systems were ready.
Turning to the FCO's station next to her, the
Romulan/Terran hybrid gave the order to Tam to proceed
with the first phase of the assault. Within the next
few minutes the crew of the ANUBIS would be made to
see if the ship was all that Admiral Koneki had made
it to be or if all of the CEO's unflattering comments
had been genuinely deserved. "Helm, take us in to
point blank firing range. Let's make sure that we
only need one shot to knock out their power and get
the assault team in."
Responding to the order given with a single nod, the
FCO engaged the ANUBIS' sub-light engines and brought
the ship and all of its weapons down on the
unsuspecting Hirogen ship.
Scanning the information being displayed at her
station the Romulan/Terran hybrid silently cursed
herself for not having had taken the time to contact
David or anyone else in the Engineering department to
request for more power to be diverted to the inertial
dampeners. This omission would not be a critical one
but it would mean that the next few seconds would
prove to be bumpy ones for anyone not prepared.
Thinking that the price of a few bumps and bruises was
not all that much to ask, the COO carried on without
giving that particular problem a second thought.
According to the instruments the COO was looking at,
the ANUBIS was performing remarkably well despite its
size, performing the required manoeuvres expertly at
the hands of their FCO. The warning from the Major
that came next had not been unexpected but still
managed to catch a few off guard, "Hold on! This is
going to be a tight turn."
Getting the ANUBIS into position had been the easy
part of this first phase, but getting the weapons into
the exact position needed to give the crew the highest
possible chance of success against the heavily
armoured ship had been another matter. Following the
arrival to the needed coordinates the ship was cast
into a quick spin that the inertial dampeners could
not compensate for fast enough resulting in many
officers being sent flying.
Having been sitting down at the Ops station, the
Romulan/Terran hybrid managed to stay at her station
despite the rapid change of course performed by the
FCO, a claim that unfortunately not everyone on the
bridge had been able to make. Looking over her
shoulder to see how the Sec/Tac officer had faired,
the COO saw Rawyvin stretching out to return to his
station. Although he had not been knocked to the
ground the Chief of Security had been tossed away from
his console during the manoeuvre.
Wasting no time Lt. Seth announced the deployment of
the ANUBIS' weapons against the Hirogen ship a split
second later. "Phaser banks 1 through 6 firing, pulse
cannons 1 through 4 firing at reduced power, forward
torpedoes launched. All shots are on target. VIPER 1
has also been launched apparently undetected."
Arriving back on the bridge just in time to see the
numerous impacts on the Hirogen ship being displayed
on the main view screen, the CO stepped out of the
turbolift pod looking a little out of sorts. The
final leg of his journey back to the command deck had
visibly been a rough one but no one dared to say or do
anything other than to be glad to see their CO back.
Heading to his chair, Capt. Simmons requested an
update on what he had missed with a single word,
"Report!"
Looking at his tactical station, Rawyvin confirmed
that every shot had landed where it had been expected
to, leaving the Hirogen ship crippled and ready for
boarding by the assault team led by Lt. Cmdr. Enaii.
"Text book perfect Sir. The Hirogen ship has lost
primary power causing all weapons and defensive
systems to be offline. Cmdr. Rikar is on route to
intercept the FOOL's GOLD."
Opening a comm channel to the transporter room, the
CO gave the all clear for the next phase of their
plan, not having the luxury to wonder about how they
would proceed with the attack on the Jem'Hadar base of
operations for the time being. "Bridge to Enaii, you
are clear to go. Good luck."
