"Operation Assault, Phase 2"
Previous Post: "Break Out"
/\/\/\
Stardate: 60298.1548
Setting: USS ANUBIS, Bridge
Hovering in space less than a mile from the disabled
Hirogen ship had in no way eased the COO's concerns,
the Romulan/Terran hybrid still expecting the expert
hunters to pull some unforeseen trick. Looking back
at the Sec/Tac officer for a very brief moment,
Serenna could tell that Rawyvin had shared her
misgivings by his readiness to unleash a second, more
destructive volley, the only thing holding him back
from doing so being the presence of the assault team
somewhere onboard that ship.
Scanning her instruments the Romulan/Terran hybrid
had been able to see that the transport of the four
Marines, four security officers, one engineer are
their team leader, Lt. Cmdr. Enaii had proceeded
without incident, taking all eight officers deep
inside the Hirogen ship in two waves that had been
made to arrive one next to the other.
Looking at the ease with which the assault team had
spread into the Hirogen ship and taken their primary
positions showed to the Romulan/Terran hybrid that
despite the lack of time to prepare Enaii had used her
extensive experience to come up with an immediate plan
of action following their arrival. Due to the heavy
armor that protected the ship, the sensors of the
ANUBIS were unable to individually identify the
members of the assault team, instead showing their
positions and leaving the Ops and Sec/Tac officers to
guess as to who was where.
Studying the fluid movements of the team as they
pressed deeper into the ship identified for the most
part who had been where, the training the security
officers and Marines had received being quite
different. The four indicators in the lead and
leapfrogging one over the other confirmed that the
Marines had taken point followed by a lonesome figure
who had likely been the ILO. Following behind the
first was another single indicator whom the
Romulan/Terran hybrid figured had been Lt. T'Reni, the
CEO's assistant. Bringing up the rear was four other
indicators whom the COO had been convinced were the
members of Rawyvin's personnel that had been selected
for this mission.
Although the COO had been keeping a close watch on
the progress of the first assault team, it was the
Sec/Tac officer who reported their advancement to the
CO. "All members of the assault team are confirmed
onboard the Hirogen ship and proceeding with the
infiltration."
Knowing better than to underestimate an opponent,
especially one with the reputation of the Hirogens,
Capt. Simmons took the time to get a little more
information. The question had not been meant to
contest the ability of the ILO to handle whatever she
and the rest of her team would encounter but to get an
idea of how much resistance they would be
encountering. Looking at the crippled ship that was
displayed on the main view screen, the CO asked, "Any
signs of the Hirogens onboard?"
Working at his station in an effort to give a more
substantial reply to the question that had been asked;
the Sec/Tac officer scrutinized the sensor readings.
After several seconds Rawyvin admitted defeat and gave
the only report he could to his CO. "Sorry Captain,
the moment we opened fire on the Hirogen ship all life
signs onboard vanished from our sensors. Either they
have erected some type of dispersion field around
their position or they have a way of masking their
bio-signs from our sensors. Which ever they are using
there is no way for us to know how many Hirogens
survived our initial assault, if any, and where they
are at the moment."
Adding what she could, the Romulan/Terran hybrid
reported on what she had observed from the Operations
station during and immediately after the strike
against the armored ship. "Sensors did pick up a
massive EM pulse that traveled through the ship as the
main power source was taken offline by our weapons;
maybe the intensity of that pulse was enough to kill
everyone onboard?"
Chuckling ever so lightly, Rawyvin announced his
disbelief in what the COO had just said. As appealing
as the idea might have been, the Chief of Security
doubted that any Hirogen could be taken out so easily
making the Sec/Tac officer wonder as to why the
Romulan/Terran hybrid had even made the suggestion.
Surely her experience in Security and training in
Intel would have given her enough background
information on the race for her to know that the
possibility she had suggested had been an extremely
unlikely one.
Not having the time to debate the situation or the
possibility presented by the COO and wordlessly
challenged by the Sec/Tac, the CO moved on to the next
phase of their assault. "Bridge to Deflector Control
Room, how is that sonic resonance coming along? If it
is not ready we'll have to go with a more direct
approach of figuring out where the Jem'Hadar base is."
The frantic voice of the CSciO came over the open
communication channel, indicating that the last few
minutes had been spent breaking every speed record
imaginable, not to mention ignoring more safety
protocols than the Shillian had cared to. =/\= The
Main Deflector is ready to be charged and fired but
there are no guarantees since neither Lt. Dawson nor
myself have had the time to run any type of tests on
the power supply or the calibration of the harmonics.
We were in so much of a rush to get this done in time
that I didn't even have the time to insure that the
beam that will be created by the main deflector will
not be overly wide so as to hit more than the mountain
we are targeting. =/\=
Jumping in after the hectic report given by the
CSciO, the CEO gave a less gloomy account of their
situation, not that what David said made anyone feel
any better about the risks they were about to take.
=/\= The power needed for this is being taken directly
from the main power grid and we have no way of knowing
how the ablative armor will react or affect the sonic
beam, but I am confident that we will be able to
perform all required modifications as they are needed.
=/\=
Having absolute confidence in the combined skills and
expertise of the CEO and CSciO, Capt. Simmons pointed
out one minor detail to David that he had either
forgotten about or had not been informed of. "Make
sure that Maya can make all of the required
modifications, you need to report to the transporter
room and get ready."
The CEO wasted no time to voice his surprise and
discontentment. =/\= Get ready! For what? =/\=
It was the Sec/Tac officer who stepped in with the
bad news. "Cmdr. Rikar and Lt. Cmdr Enaii selected
you to be on the second assault team as per the
specifications given by the Captain. Each team is to
have an engineer with them and you were selected."
Sounding clearly upset about this, David barked his
reply back. =/\= Nice that someone had the decency to
let me know about this. Since I suspect that arguing
with this will be nothing more than a waste of time,
let me contact T'Reni and get her down here to help
out. =/\=
Pointing out the obvious to the CEO, Rawyvin kept his
amusement of the situation from appearing in his
voice. "That will be kind of difficult since she is
with Lt. Cmdr. Enaii onboard the Hirogen ship."
What came over the open channel next was a lengthy
sequence of curses that had been borrowed from almost
every language known to the Federation prompting the
CO to make an observation. "I think he took that
rather well, but it might be an idea to warn Lt.
Pravat to give David a little extra room during beam
down. Talking about extra room, how is the VIPER
doing?"
It was the Romulan/Terran hybrid who reported on the
chase that Cmdr. Rikar had undertaken. "VIPER 1
should be intercepting the FOOL's GOLD in less than a
minute, but even if she shoots him down right away
there will be no way for her to be back here to lead
the second assault team."
Looking at the Sec/Tac officer, the CO debated on the
pros and cons of sending his Chief of Security down to
the planet surface and face the Jem'Hadars that were
down there.
