"Another Day"

Setting: USS ANUBIS, Bridge
Supervising the status of the ship and its crew was
by definition the job of the COO, and even though the
ANUBIS had been docked inside NEW ALEXANDRIA, the
Romulan/Terran hybrid had not shun away from this
responsibility reporting for her duty shift as normal.
Scanning for the location of the senior staff the
Romulan/Terran hybrid quickly noted that the Oltharian
had been hard at work on the installation of the
drones for the specialized crafts, judging by the
amount of work that had been done that the giant had
either stayed late the night before or started very
early this morning. Either way the result would be
the same: the upgrades to the SPHINX and BARRACUDA
would be completed ahead of time, something that the
COO appreciated.
Noticing a heavy usage of computer resources, the
Romulan/Terran hybrid saw that the Oltharian had not
been the only one who had gotten an early start to the
day. Already busy in one of the science lad, the
Shillian was observed performing a myriad of tests and
scans, all of the information being analyzed on the
spot by the ship's computer. Using the volume of
computer power being allocated to this single task,
the COO figured without trouble that the CSciO had
been researching the stone that Lt. Onison had given
her. Hoping that the results of the CSciO's scans
would prove both conclusive and positive, the Ops
officer continued her scans of the ship's systems and
personnel.
Stepping onto the bridge looking like a new man, the
CO beamed a surprisingly wide smile at the COO and the
other members of the bridge staff as he walked down to
the command pit. "Nice to see so many eager beavers,
I just hope that it doesn't mean that we are having
any sort of problems."
Turning around in her chair to face the now sitting
CO of the ANUBIS, the Romulan/Terran hybrid gave a
snapshot report to Cpt. Simmons on the state of his
ship. "All systems are operating within normal
parameters and the upgrades to the BARRACUDA and
SPHINX are proceeding ahead of schedule."
Appearing pleased with the report, the CO comfortably
leaned back into his chair looking at the stations
that filled the bridge making a mental note of which
one had been occupied and which had been left empty.
Travelling through space required that each and every
station be manned at all times, but while docked at
their base of operations, a more relaxed protocol
could be observed without any danger. After a few
moments of cherished quietness, Cpt. Simmons called up
various logs to his chair and began reviewing them
while the rest of the bridge's staff carried on with
their respective tasks.
Having completed her preliminary scan of the ship and
personnel without having discovered anything of
concern, the Romulan/Terran hybrid once again turned
to face her CO. "Captain, with your permission, I
would like to be excused from the bridge to inspect in
person certain sections of the ship. Nothing has
appeared on internal sensors to warrant this, but I
would like to become better acquainted with those
sections of the ANUBIS that I do not get the chance to
visit all that much."
Lifting his head from his reading the CO gave the COO
a very serious look which did not give any sign of
softening any time soon. "You want to abandon you
post so that you can go frolicking around the ship?
What will happen if the ship should suddenly encounter
a meteor shower, an ionic storm or a fleet of deranged
aliens bent on galactic domination?"
Looking back at Cpt. Simmons with nothing else but
seriousness engraved on her face the Romulan/Terran
hybrid considered the many scenarios created by her CO
before she saw him smile which made the COO realize
that he had been joking.
Happy to see the Captain in such a jovial mood, the
Ops Officer weakly returned the man's smile, her
training, heritage and upbringing not making it easy
for the Romulan/Terran hybrid to openly show any
emotions.
Returning to his reading, the CO tried to sound as
serious as he had during the first part of his reply,
"If you feel confident that the ship is safe from the
chaos of the universe, than I see no reason to deny
your request."
Standing from her station, the Romulan/Terran hybrid
stepped down into the command pit and leaned in close
to the reading CO and whispered, "Thank you captain,
but as far as the ship being safe from the chaos of
the universe, I doubt that we will ever be that,
especially working out of NEW ALEXANDRIA under Adm.
Koneki."
Looking at the COO as she left the bridge, Cpt.
Simmons wondered for a brief moment if the
Romulan/Terran hybrid had been serious in what she had
said or simply proven to him that she too had a sense
of humor.

Setting: USS ANUBIS, Main Engineering
Having spent a fair amount of time traveling the
ANUBIS from stem to stern, the Romulan/Terran hybrid
had arrived to what many referred to as the heart of a
ship, Main Engineering. Like on the bridge and the
rest of the ship, the level of activity had been
minimal but this had not surprised or troubled the
COO, in fact the absence of the majority of personnel
would give her the chance to explore some of the more
out of the way areas without attracting too much
attention. Starfleet Command had a while back decided
to assign new uniform colors to many departments,
those working in engineering not having been left
untouched by this change. Because of this, the Ops
officer stood out from the rest of the staff, the
golden color of her uniform easily noticed amongst the
sea of blue uniforms that the members of the
engineering staff now wore.
Making her way around the warp core, the
Romulan/Terran hybrid suddenly stopped in her tracks
having noticed a uniform matching in color her own.
Since the COO had only seen the officer for a brief
moment, she had been unable to recognize who it had
been making her that much more curious as to why a
member of the Operations or Security department would
be here. Momentarily abandoning her self-guided tour
of the ANUBIS, the Ops officer went after the officer
in the yellow uniform.
Catching up to the officer she had earlier seen with
ease, the COO realized that the person in question had
been none other than the ANUBIS' CEO, Lt. David
Dawson. "David? Did you wake up in the wrong
quarters?"
Snapping his head back to see who had asked the
strange question, the CEO chuckled. "No, why do you
ask?"
Pointing at the yellow section of her uniform, the
Romulan/Terran hybrid had not needed to explain the
basis of her question, the look of puzzlement on her
face speaking volumes.
Rolling his eyes the CEO turned back to what he had
been doing before the COO had interrupted him. "Don't
you start. I received a temporary transfer of
assignment to NEW ALEXANDRIA and I am not in the mood
to wear a color that I don't like."
Thinking about all that the CEO had just said, the
Romulan/Terran hybrid reached out for the man whom she
had done her Academy days with. "Temporary transfer?
Why?"
Pulling his shoulder away from the COO's hand, the
CEO continued to work on what he had been busy with.
"I have no idea; all I know is that it has been one
headache after another."
Understanding that he did not want to be disturbed,
the Ops officer pulled back by a few steps. "Fair
enough, but if you feel like talking I'm here. I just
hope that once this temporary transfer is done and
over with you will get back to your normal uniform, I
would hate to mistake you for someone else and assign
you to an Operations or Security task in the middle of
a crisis."
