Observing people without their knowledge from the shadows of a crowded room was a skilful art that Lt. Cmdr. Enaii had mastered many years ago, and had she been here with the rest of the gathered officers from the ANUBIS the ILO might have noticed that another shared in her quiet expertise. He had not meant to follow the aCMO and Cns from the ship to the base but since they had been heading in the same direction that he had, Luke Onison saw no harm in conducting a little recon. In his field of work knowledge was as deadly as the most potent of poison and as prized as the rarest of precious gems, and here he had the opportunity to get information on the two Ensigns that might prove useful at some point in the future.
Listening with great interest to the discussion taking place several tables away, Luke took notes on everything that was being said about OSHALLON PRIME, TROY and several other worlds that had found their way into the debate as to what the next mission of the ANUBIS would focus on. Noting each officer's reaction to what was being said; Onison raised his head when a silence filled the air at the arrival of Lt. Dawson.
Dealing with a much more personal aspect of the upcoming mission, the discussion became even more interesting to Luke giving him an insight into a situation that he had only heard rumors about. Looking at the way the daughter of the ILO and ExO was reacting to the large engineer also provided an impressive amount of information about the behind-the-scenes relationship between the three officers. Using interpersonal friction that already existed between two or more individuals was always a good way to divert attention away from critical areas when the time was right, and this apparent hostility between the ILO and CEO could prove to be very useful.
Seeing the aCMO and CEO leave the base's Cafeteria together made Luke's blood boil. The reaction had been unexpected and troubling to the man who had all but forgotten about the rest of the group. Luke had been ready to follow them but he quickly decided against, not wanting to reveal to the rest that he had been there all along. Whatever David and Lea had been talking about would remain their little secret, at least for the time being.

Serenna could not believe what she had seen and heard from Talia. The sense of hostility between Enaii and David had not been a secret, but that had still not excused the girl's behaviour given that it seemed that the tension between the two had diminished over the last little while. It was true that the situation which had Lt. Cmdr. Rikar in the middle had been difficult on everyone, but the Romulan/Terran hybrid could not accept that as an excuse for the language used by the child. Imagining the reaction of the XO when she would learn of what had happened, the COO figured that she might have some explaining to do.
Shooting a glare worthy of the sternest of Romulan governess at the little girl, the Romulan/Terran hybrid put a stop at the growing attitude of the ILO's daughter. David might have had his flaws, but the same could be said about everyone else, some of these being more visible than others.
Looking at the clock, the gathering of officers from the ANUBIS decided to head back to the ship in preparation for the 1300 senior staff meeting.

Susan had waited until she had been alone with Serenna to ask the question that had been weighing on her mind. "What was that all about? I mean Talia's reaction to David. What did he do to her or her mother?"
Serenna had been glad to see that the Cns had waited for the child to be back in the custody of her adoptive mother before asking what she had. The question had been a simple one, but the answer would prove to be anything but.
"Have you read Lt. Cmdr. Rikar's psyche file?" The Ops officer asked. Serenna had not read it herself but she knew that it contained enough to make the situation clearer to the Cns.
"I remember reading something about her having lost her memory," Susan replied before stopping in mid breath. "She was about to be engaged to David when…"
"…when her memories returned and she discovered that she had a family," Serenna said in a half whispered voice. "Not to mention a wife and child."
"The main psychological impact would have been Sabrina's," Susan said. She had reviewed the file before, but had never really spent that much time on it. Based on what she had seen though, Ens. Mei wondered if maybe it might not have been a good idea to have studied that case more closely. "I can only imagine how Enaii and Talia felt at almost losing a member of their immediate family. A personal loss of that sort is never easy, but to see them leave for someone else is even harder."
"Unfortunately," Serenna said, trying to remain neutral. "David found himself in the middle of a situation that he had never wanted to be in. He lost a great deal and gained next to nothing in return."
"That actually explains some of the things that he said during our sessions. I might have to investigate this aspect of his psyche more closely the nest time we speak."
"Don't push him too hard," Serenna said, not as the Ops Officer of the ANUBIS, but as David's friend. "There is a sensitive man hiding beneath that though exterior, and right now I think that only Lea is able to reach that part of him."
"I'll be careful.
