Setting: USS ANUBIS, Deck 7, Draxx Quarters
The young woman glanced silently into the bedroom to insure that Talia had still been asleep. It had taken a while but Talia had finally began to sleep normally once again despite the extended absence of her birth mother… the only problem had been that in order to achieve this, the young girl had to be in bed with her adoptive mother. Although this had relatively insured that the ILO's daughter would sleep through the night free of nightmares, it had also cemented the fact that the ExO would not be able to get a full night's rest.
Happy to see that Talia had remained asleep despite the departure of her adoptive mother from her side, the young woman continued to get ready for the day… hopefully today would be the day when she would get news of her life mate and maybe even an estimate as to her return to the ANUBIS and her immediate family.
Just as she turned to head to the living room, Rikar heard a faint
knocking sound which took several moments to accurately identify as originating from the door. Although the ExO had initially wondered as to why someone had chosen to knock instead of using the door chime, the young woman quickly became grateful to whoever had been so thoughtful and not trigger something that would have most certainly resulted in Talia's awakening.
==========
**Cmdr. Rikar is in her quarters.** The CEO repeated in his mind with a
high level of sarcasm. **Where else was she suppose to be at this hour?
Scrubbing the warp nacelles? That's what I get for not sleeping
through the night… I have no idea of time… so what am I doing here?** David
inquired of himself without speaking, now standing in front of the door leading to the quarters of the Draxx family which included the woman that he had wanted to see.
The massive engineer debated for a little while as to the course of
action he would follow. On one side David had figured that being here had
been a bad idea from the start and that he should leave before he did
something that he had been bound to regret at some point in time. On the other hand, the former CEO thought that delaying what he knew needed to be done would only make it more difficult and might even make the entire situation worse. Eventually the massive man decided that action would be the best course of action… although in a more subdued manner, so instead of using the door chime to announce his presence David decided to gently knock on the
door. Worst case scenario meant that no one would answer the door because
they had still been asleep… best case scenario would have Sabrina open the door.
The engineer suddenly stopped his attempts when a third possibility popped into his head, one that made the worst case scenario seem like a preferable
alternative. What if the ILO had returned? Worse… what if it was her who opened the door?
Ready to make a hasty retreat, David was stopped dead in his tracks when the door whooshed open… revealing to his great relief the enchanting charms of the redheaded woman.
Sabrina rubbed her eyes, "David? Are you ok?" she asked slipping her robe back over her shoulder. David got lost for a second as she tapped him in the chest.
"Dave?" she said again, "are you lost?"
"Um..." and David blinked repeatedly, "I... um..."
"A lost for words. This is a first." the ExO of the
ANUBIS said and she smiled, "I can always tell when
something's on your mind. Well you might has well
come in unless you actually enjoy standing out in the
corridor like that."
David entered and sat on the couch. Sabrina sat next
to him and he looked at her.
"Have you been sleeping any lately?" David asked.
"Is this a courtesy check Lieutenant?" the ExO asked,
"because I can say the same about you. You look like
hell."
David almost put his foot in his mouth, so he stood
and paced."
"David... talk to me."
"Why?" he started to say as she placed a finger next
to her lips. The former CEO looked at her, then shook
his head.
"What was that all about yesterday?" he asked.
"Outside of me being genually concerned about you,
that's all it was." Sabrina replied.
"You never used to keep tabs on me before" David said.
"Until recently Dave... you never gave me a reason
to... but you attack my captain and the second
officer. You left me no choice."
David promised himself that he wouldn't blow things
out of proportion. "But of all people..." and he
caught her looking towards the room behind him. That's
the fourth time since he arrived that she was looking
past him.
"Am I interupting anything..." and he looked around.
he finally noticed what Sabrina was wearing. Was Enaii
back on board?
"Is Enaii..." he started to say and Sabrina had to
stifen a laugh. "David I was in bed with *Talia*! I do
have a daughter remember?"
And that hit the CEO like a quantom torpedo. **I do
have a daughter, remember?** rang in his mind.
**Yeah... just not with me** he thought and sat.
"Sabrina" David said and sighed, "I don't know what to
do anymore. I feel useless."
Sabrina slid closer to him and took his hand in both
of hers. "Nonsense and you know it. You're a valuable
part of this crew..."
David smirked at her.
"OK... when you're on active duty you are. But be
that as it may, you still make contributions to the
ship and crew. Even though you're on admin leave, you
still have done wonders for the SCARAB, HORUS, and
SKHEMET. I have talked with all three CEOs... including
Mercedes..."
And that caused the eyebrow of the ANUBIS former CEO
to creep up his forehead. "You talked to Mimi?"
Sabrina smiled, "Let's just say that she's been a
little apologenic since you suffered your heart attack
and she heard that she didn't want to endure my
wrath."
"That would be a helluva sight" David said and shook
his head.
Sabrina lifted his chin. "David listen... out of all
the people I know you just... exubriate Starfleet from
every part of your being. Being the son of a well
known and respect captain has it perks and *I* know
you know the rules and regs. I'm pretty sure you've
seen your Dad when he was a ExO having to discipline
someone..."
"Um... hello... I didn't get the name David Richard
Dawson, Junior for nothing... who do you think he was
discplining?"
Sabrina laughed and shook her head. "You know what I
meant Dave... just as you're passionate about your job
well... so am I. I've worked hard ever since James made
me his executive officer. The job has it rewards... and
its pitfalls. Like now. I didn't want to, but I *had*
to. I hope you understand."
David shrugged. "I guess you're right."
"Its about time you realized that" she teased as he
rolled his eyes and he stood.
"Well... sorry to have disturb you Commander..."
"I'm always here for you David... even in times that
you hate I exist."
"I've never hated that aspect of you Sabrina..." his
voice trailed off.
"Bina?!" they both heard coming from the bedroom.
"Talk to you later. I don't want to be here when she
comes out here."
Sabrina glanced in the direction of the bedroom and
whe she looked back, he was gone.
"Now that's wierd... only person that does that so
well is Enaii... I never heard the doors open..." and
she shrugged and went towards the bedroom.
As he stood in the shadows, he watched her walk into
the bedroom. He finally got a load off his mind as to
the reasons why she did what she did... but it made him
feel good that his little disappearing act reminded
her of her wife. David remembered several times when
it was days that he didn't see Sabrina and how crazy
it drove him. Imagine being married to such a
wonderful woman as he thumbed the panel to open the
door and exited.
