Eva was starting to get twitchy. She had been trying to find out more
about this USS ANUBIS where she was assigned to and she hadn't found
out anything yet. Everyone just nodded and pointed her here.
Now the hybrid was convinced, having spent the all of 2 minutes here
in this office that she was in one of the levels of hell. And this
woman was the gatekeeper.
No swords or tennis balls were appropriate where Eva was, there was no
way to express this twitching that was going on.
"I can get you an iced mocha," Amey offered. "Or some Andorian
Palauu."
Now Dorotheva had loved iced mochas since she first tasted them.
Andorian Palauu was comfort food as far as she was concerned. And
under any other circumstances she would have liked them. But she
wouldn't trust an iced mocha from this woman if her life depended upon
it.
So the Security and Intel trained officer decided to use her twitching
and channel it into something else.
Blinking her gray/silver eyes the hybrid smiled and asked, "I'm sorry
I must have missed your name. What was it again?"
"Amey," the dark haired woman beamed without any sincerity.
"Ahh... Amey. And any last name?" Eva inquired politely.
"Last name?"
"Like Stepford?" the hybrid smiled back.
The smile never wavered, the hybrid noted. This woman smiled as if
her life depened on it, never blinking at the question just rolling
with the punches. "No, no last name. Just Amey."
"Oh right, silly me," the hybrid smiled back. Now it was a question
of whose face was going to break first.
"So that iced mocha -- can I get it for you?"
Eva avoided closing her eyes and sighing. She didn't want to make her
face blank, she wanted to appear engaged with Amey, even if Amey was
as engaging as piece of 2x4.
"Tea. And scones."
"Tea?"
"Tea and scones." The Edo/Betazoid smiled. "I really would like some
tea and scones."
"I'm sorry, I thought you liked iced mochas. And Andorian Palauu."
"I do. But every so often you want to change things up. You know
what that's like don't you?" Eva smiled.
Amey paused a millisecond, which was more than she had ever paused
before. Getting up she asked, "Of course. What kind of tea would you
like? And scones?"
"Chamomile for the tea. And cranberry scones," she murmured as she
watched the secretary get up and go. "So when will the ANUBIS be
back?"
Amey came back, and had control once again. "So did you want 1 lump
or 2 in your tea?" she inquired.
And damn it, Eva realized, the woman hadn't lost her smile.

**What kind of assignment am I getting that I can't even know when the
ship I'm assigned to is coming back,** the hybrid thought to herself.
**I've gotten more useful information from...hell...just about
anything really.**
After getting the tea, Eva feigned forgetting an appointment and left
the tea there as she dashed out. Amey had offered to put it in a
transportable thermos but Eva begged off. She had taken the scones
simply because she didn't think before grabbing one.
Now looking at it Eva wondered what she should do with the blasted
thing. Sighing she sat down on a bench putting the scone next to her.
She actually hated tea and scones, she only asked for it to throw off
the secretary. She had decided to come to the very lush arboretum to
sit down amongst the plants and think awhile before trying to figure
out another way to find out more about the ANUBIS.
Suddenly something dashed by Eva's feet. Looking down she saw nothing
but then within a second there was a rustle at her side. The hybrid
glanced and saw what could only be a small primate at her side.
Grabbing the scone that Amey had given her.
"I wouldn't if I were you," the Ensign muttered as she scooted away a
bit. "I don't know where that scone's been."
The primate, a small little creature that wasn't bigger than a few
pounds and when he stood one his legs she would have pegged him at
being between one to two feet high.
However when Eva spoke to him, he (she assumed it was a he) cocked his
head as if he were listening to her.
And then he put the scone down.
Swallowing the amazement she felt at that, the little primate's ears
flickered and then he dashed under her legs behind her bags.
"Get out," she muttered, moving around her bags.
Suddenly from her view point of staring at the floor the hybrid
noticed a pair of boots in front of her. Straightening up a man ran
up to her and looked to be more annoyed than she was. "Have you seen
my monkey, Ensign?"
Eva raised a black eyebrow at him. The guy looked like the type of
person who was usually hidden away and described as "special".
"You've got 2 seconds to apologize and leave before I start hitting
your--"
The man scowled at her. "I'm not trying to pick you up. You're not
that lucky."
"Some how I'll have to find some way to console myself over that
fact," Eva replied.
"Look, I work in Zoology and we're missing a primate -- a monkey to
be specific."
The hybrid said nothing but felt a tugging on her leg.
**Coincidence,** she told herself. "I'm sorry, Crewman--"
"Barrington," the man told her shortly. "I need him back."
"It's a monkey -- how hard could it be to get a monkey?" she asked.
"He's a special monkey -- a Capuchin monkey that we've had specially
trained," he clarified. "We were doing experiments on him and he's
been responsive to humanoid speech patterns and what's even better
we've taught him how to respond back with some hand patterns." When
Eva said nothing he clarified. "We were finding some interesing
responses with pain but he's a stubborn bugger and won't always do
what we say. Anyway, we were continuing that experiment today when he
escaped."
Eva felt a digging into her leg but even more important she felt
something inside of her. Looking carefully at the Crewman she asked
quietly, "You were getting *interesting* responses to pain?"
"It's was great!"
The Edo/Betazoid glared at the Crewman. "It was *great*? Let's try
our own experiment shall we?"
Nudging her sword case open she selected one of her favorite swords,
snaped the case shut, pushed it back, and stood up. Both the monkey
and the man backed away from her, but thankfully in opposite
directions. "Let's see how you respond to pain."
Barrington looked around and saw no one around. "All I have to do is
scream."
Holding the sword in position Eva smiled, "All I have to is move."
"I'll have you arrested."
"I'll have you using another bathroom for the rest of your life."
Glaring at the man she spoke softly but her intent was clear, "You
better hope I don't see you or your monkey. Now get out of here."
Barrington went backing out of the area until he was long gone. Eva
sighed and sunk to the bench. Getting out the sword case she put back
her sword and saw the monkey watching her, pushed back up against the
wall. "It's okay," she murmured as she glanced at him upside down.
"He's gone."
The little Capuchin monkey came scurrying forth and touched Eva's
hand. The Edo/Betazoid sighed and opened up her other bag, and after
some digging, got out some Betazoid grapes and offered them up. The
monkey leaned forward and took the grapes. Then he sat back and ate
as if he hadn't seen food in days. Maybe he hadn't, Eva couldn't
tell.
Sitting up, the Ensign rubbed her head. "Yeah this is a great way to
start my career -- helping monkey escapees."
