Setting: NEW ALEXANDRIA, Admiral Koneki's Office
The Admiral stood behind the large protective window… his hands behind
his back, and his gaze fixated on the Scarab-Class vessel occupying the
second docking station. Under normal circumstances the CO of the NEW
ALEXNADRIA base would have been happy to see the ship displaying the ID number of NCC-18501, but reality had a bad habit of reminding the Admiral that
'normal circumstances' were something of a rarity… especially in the field of
Intel. The ANUBIS and its crew had been sent on an information gathering
mission to the TANGIERS ORBITAL… a mission that should have last several weeks…
maybe even a month if the crew had wanted to take advantage of the
establishment's hospitality. So what had happened?
In order to protect the secrecy of both the ship and the base,
communications between the 2 had been kept to a minimum despite the
state of the art encryption protocols that were in place. The Admiral curiosity would simply have to wait to be quenched. In the meantime though, the mind of the NEW ALEXANDRIA's flag officer went into overdrive as he tried to come up with some sort of feasible possibility given the information that
had been at his disposal.
=/\= Admiral… Captain Simmons is here to see you as ordered. =/\=
Allyson announced as Koneki continued to scrutinize the exterior hull of the
ANUBIS to see if maybe he could find a clue there as to what had happened.
Initial reports from the engineering department had not given any sort of
indication that the ANUBIS had been through any type of combat, so this left the Admiral with only 1 way to get to the bottom of this… the old fashion
way… to ask the questions and get the answers from those directly involved.
"Thank you Allyson… show the Captain in." The Admiral replied as he
turned away from the large window and made his way back to his desk, giving
the 3 large statues located directly behind it a quick glance. The massive
statue of the Egyptian God of the Underworld held a special position between
those of Horus and Sekhmet… for a good reason, which only increased the man's
disappointment in the ship and crew's premature return home.
==========
The meeting with Cpt. Simmons had been short and sweet, the CO of the
ANUBIS having come as prepared as could be with the reports from the entire
senior staff… with 1 notable exception of course. The Admiral had not
expected Enaii to hand over her mission report to her CO so that he could review it before passing it on to the NEW ALEXANDRIA's head administrator. That would not have been like the ILO, and Koneki liked it that way… there were things better left unsaid to the general public if people were to keep working as they did.
From James' report, the Admiral had been given a clear enough general
view of what had happened… this had permitted him to make a list of those
officers of the ANUBIS that he would need to speak to… privately…
one-on-one.
Ensign Summers, the ANUBIS' CMO, had been the first name placed on this
list… the reason for this having been as clear as Rigelian water. She
had been captured, held against her will, possibly tortured and the Admiral
wanted to hear from the woman's lips directly what had happened. The
CMO's report had been very thorough, but Koneki knew that the written words
of a report could be made to leave certain things out… aspects of a report
that he would be able to pick-up and investigate during a verbal follow-up.
The name of Ensign Mei, the ANUBIS' Cns, had been quickly added to this
list in order for her to explain in more detail what had transpired during
their mission. Actually the Admiral had been more interested in the
relationship she and the man named Matt had apparently shared, that aspect of the character profile not having appeared on the information provided to
the agent. Something had been missing and Koneki had every intentions of
finding out what and why.
Next on the list of officers to see had been Lt. David Dawson, the
ANUBIS' CEO who had been and still current was, on an indefinite leave from
duty. Simmons had informed the Admiral of David's wish to leave the ANUBIS
and NEW ALEXANDRIA and this troubled the NEW ALEXANDRIA's CO in several ways.
Investigating the reason or reasons for this decision would be a high
priority for Koneki, but as important as it may have been, Dawson would
not be the first the Admiral would speak to.
=/\= Admiral… Lt. Cmdr. Enaii is here to see you. =/\= Allyson
announced making the high-ranking officer grin momentarily. He had not
instructed the ANUBIS' ILO to report to him, but that she had come on her own had not been at all surprising to Koneki… after all Enaii was a Level 5 Field
Operative, and anticipating the moves of friends and foes alike was part of the deal.
"Send her…" The Admiral began, the rest of his sentence remaining
unspoken as door to the Admiral's office opened and Enaii stepped in uninvited
and looking like she had a rather large chip on her shoulders.
