Setting: USS ANUBIS - IGC

The Intel Operative stood emotionless as she reviewed the sparse amount of data she'd been able to find on these shadow creatures. As near as she could tell, they did not exist, at least not in the conventional sense. Though they were clearly real, science could not prove their existence even with a corpse at it's disposal, much in the same way that a hologram appeared to be but wasn't really.

Existence or not, these creatures posed a heavy threat to the ship, it's crew, and her family. She intended to help Maya find a way to combat them before wasting time worrying over something as trivial as two Cardassian GALOR-Class Destroyers.

"Commander Enaii," the hushed voice of the Station's Robotics Engineer interrupted her train of thought.

"Elan," Enaii hissed, causing the giant to slightly cringe at his own name. "Mister Dawson is occupied with fixing our ship and I have a top priority engineering job to be done."

"I'll get right to it!" the Oltharian agreed before even knowing what the job was.

"Very good," the Operative confirmed, "Rig up something that will automatically teleport Talia to my office in the event of a Red Alert, and create an independent security system to protect her in the event of intruders. Any other security measures you can think of should be added as well. Have it done within the hour. Nothing fancy, tweak it later."

The gentle giant smiled and nodded, he truly loved to build things for Talia. "I will begin right away."

Enaii nodded and turned to leave the room before calling over her shoulder, "Make sure you program it to teleport her monkey too."

Setting: USS ANUBIS - Astrometrics

Enaii entered Astrometrics to find the Shillian woman staring blankly at a map of the star region they were in. "I brought you information."

"On those creatures?" Maya inquired, turning to look at the Operative quizzically. The woman glared back at her in response. "I couldn't find anything in the databanks on them. I tried looking for even the most obscure reference, mythical databanks, I even looked in the Klingon databases and I came up empty handed. I was beginning to think that we imagined them, of course I realise that is not possible but since no one else has ever seen them, it seemed like as good a hypothesis as any, I'd sure like to know where you found it."

"You don't have my clearance," Enaii replied as if that explained everything, in fact it explained a lot. "This is everything the Federation knows, you will have to decipher it, most of it reads like it was written by someone like you."

The Shillian raised an eyebrow before scanning the padd. "It seems pretty straightforward to me…"

"Exactly," the Intel Agent interrupted, refraining from rolling her eyes. "It will help?"

Maya nodded vigorously. "It's already helping, it may not be much, but it's more than we had. But Enaii… what if I can't do this alone? What if I still can't figure out a way to protect us from these aliens? If they even *are* aliens, I don't really much know what they are so I can hardly name them. They seem to be living creatures, but none of my instruments can tell me that they are. These bulkheads hold more life in them if I trust my instruments."

"Then trust your eyes," Enaii snapped, this was really a conversation best had with a Counselor, Ensign Mei perhaps… as for her, she'd already proven that her motivational skills were less than satisfactory.

"Aren't you ever afraid or uncertain, I mean…" The scientist began but the Operative quickly raised a hand to silence the woman.

"I do not have the luxury of fear or confusion, nor do you," Enaii snapped coldly. "My child and my wife are on the ANUBIS, as well as hundreds of crew onboard this ship… several friends," she said the word emotionlessly, though it tasted bitter admitted out loud, "Hesitation, regardless of it's source, will cost lives that I am not willing to pay. Be afraid later," she said, remembering a line her father used to teach her, "Scream, cry or break things when it's all over. Until then be in control of yourself, because you cannot control time and an emergency will not wait for you to be ready."

Without waiting for the woman to reply, Enaii left the Scientist to her thoughts, content to finally report to Lieutenant Commander Serenna to begin working on their little problem.
