Setting: USS ANUBIS, Deck 10, Section 11 Alpha
Having found that there was little for her do accomplish on the bridge, the Romulan/Terran hybrid decided to tour the ship and visually inspect the progress made by the individual teams. Wanting to check up on the CEO the XO made a point to seek her former Academy classmate first to see how he was doing, both professionally and personally.
Rounding a corner the XO was impressed to see that the corridor that had been almost inaccessible a few hours ago had been cleared of all debris and was bustling with activity. The Romulan/Terran hybrid was even more surprised and pleased to see member of her former department, Operations, working in conjunction with the Engineering staff to effect repairs as quickly as possible.
Walking closer to a group working on a set of freshly replaced EPS conduits, the presence of the Romulan/Terran hybrid was detected only after she leaned in over their shoulders to see the work in progress. Not having expected the ANUBIS's XO to be where she was, one of the engineers looked up at the officer in surprise. "Commander Serenna? What brings you down here? Is everything alright?"
Looking at the expression on the crewman's face and that of those next to him, the XO realized the implication of the question and quickly proceeded to counter any concerns that they might have had. "Just came by to check on the progress of the work and to see Lt. Dawson."
Appearing a little relieved that no new problem had surfaced, the team returned to their work with the exception of one engineer who extended his neck to look inside one of the open access ports to the Jefferies tubes network. "Last time I saw the Chief he was making sure that the structural integrity field was working as it should in this section of the ship."
Gathering by the reply and the focus of the man's gaze that the CEO had gone into the Jefferies tubes, the Romulan/Terran hybrid decided to follow suit and go after David. The last time she had been inside one of those crawlspaces had been when the XO was in charge of ship's security as its S/Tac officer running her staff through various training exercises. After having been promoted to COO, Serenna had not had the opportunity to indulge in this activity, and as the ANUBIS First Officer the chances to do so had proven to be even rarer.
Crawling through the maze of Jefferies tubes, the XO could see the remnant of the collision with the Cardassian Destroyer still lingering about in the form of loose wiring, debris and bent support frame. Given all of the work that the CEO and his staff had already accomplished, there was no way that the Romulan/Terran hybrid could fault David for the state of these crawl spaces understanding that he had prioritized the work on essential systems. The aesthetic appearance of the hidden sections of the ship had been placed at the bottom of the priority list for obvious reasons that the XO agreed with.
Having navigated through a few sections of crawl space, the Romulan/Terran hybrid found the person she had been searching for, or at least the aft part of the man, the front half having been hidden inside an open access panel.
Watching the large man working and grunting about some unknown problem, the XO could not resist pointing out the awkwardness of the position in which the CEO had been found in. "Speaking as a former Chief of Security that is a very dangerous, and if might I add, a quite vulnerable position you are in Mr. Dawson."
Immediately following the words of the XO was a loud and hollow thud followed by a string of curses that seemed to have originated from the deepest reaches of hell itself. Prying himself out of the hole he had been in, David glared at the Romulan/Terran hybrid as he rubbed the large bump that was beginning to form on top of his head. "What are you trying to do? Give me another heart attack?"
Appearing remorseful for the way things had unfolded, the Romulan/Terran hybrid shook her head. "Of course not, I'm sorry. I just wanted to see how things were progressing and when I saw you like this I allowed myself to be back at the Academy for a brief moment."
Returning to his work, the CEO mumbled, "Yeah, well things were different back then, so unless you have an actual reason for being here aside for checking upon me, I have a lot of work to do. So if you will excuse me Commander."
Realizing that she had gone about this all wrong, the XO decided to retreat and leave the engineer to his work thinking that as bad as the meeting had gone it had served to show that David was back to a semblance of normality, his mind and actions concentrated on his work and nothing more.
