Working *to* create an infection instead of stopping one. Lea could not believe that she had been working on this newest project. As a Doctor Lea had taken an oath to do no harm, so never had she expected to be creating a dangerous virus instead of eradicating one.
For Lea the only saving grace had been that the virus would not be biological but electronic. Unless her medical oath had somehow been extended to include machines, there would not be any problem. At least that was what Lea kept saying to herself as she worked along side Maya.
"I greatly appreciate you wanting to help," Maya said, accepting a PADD from Enaii, "but I am sure that we can manage. I am not saying that your help is not welcomed, but this is sort of out of your field."
"A virus is a virus, regardless of its pathology. We need this little beauty to be as dangerous and deadly as possible. I am sure that the last thing you want is for those orbital platforms to reactivate right when we are in the middle. Making sure that they *never* work again is only going to help put everyone's mind at ease." Lea said causing Enaii to look at the CMO in a strange way.
"I see your point and entirely agree with it," Maya said, not having noticed the look from Enaii. "Since contagiousness and lethality are your objectives, why don't you work on those aspects. I have to identify the communication frequency used by the network and come up with an effective delivery system. If the orbital net is half as sophisticated as it needs to be, it is bound to have multiple self-protective subroutines. It would not be a good planetary defence system if it was not designed to stop what we are trying to do. The best we can hope for is that we end up being better in creating the virus as they are stopping them."
Lea watched as Maya continued to work. It was amazing that the scientist could talk as fast as she did while still working at a breakneck pace. Had this been another time and another place, a study on the Shillian metabolism might have proven to be interesting.
"Slept well?" David asked as he came out of the Conferecne Lounge and joined Maya and Lea at the back of the bridge. The CEO had other matters to attend, but his station having been right next to that of Maya had made him take a seat besides the CMO.
"I had meant to talk to someone about that," Lea said with a grin. "The last thing I remember was being in the cargo bay. Then earlier this morning I woke up in my quarters. Do I have you or someone else to thank for the transport?"
"You can actually thank Serenna," David replied, "She gave the order."
"So you carried me from the cargo bay to my quarters and *tucked me in*? That might explain some of the dreams I had." Lea said in a joking fashion, nudging David as she did so.
"I did nothing. I dropped you on the bed and left. Abusing a sleeping woman is not my style," David said with all due haste. The CEO had not been certain where this had been going, but he was not about to take any chances.
"I did not mean to imply that you had done something," Lea said, still grinning. "But if you had, I am sure that I would have more pleasant dreams than those that I had."
David looked at Lea with surprise. Had the CMO said what he thought he had heard he say? Surely he had mistaken some of the words Lea had said, if she had been the one to say that at all. After a few seconds, David left the bridge and dismissed the entire conversation as if it had never happened. Right now dealing with those cloaked orbital weapons platform was the most important thing to do. Anything and everything else would just have to wait, and depending on what it was, it might have to wait a very long time.
