Stardate: 60325.2230
Setting: USS ANUBIS, Rikar-Draxx Quarters

When this day had begun the ANUBIS and its crew had been heading towards SURIAL III and the crew of the MERCURY on a quest to remove them from evil's grasp and to bring them back to the safety and sanctity of their home. At that time many fears had been envisioned while the preparations were being completed and the music from the Oltharian's flute had been one of many ways that had been used by some members of the crew to ward off the nightmarish visions from their path.

The day was now coming to an end and the ANUBIS had fulfilled its quest leaving behind a shattered SURIAL III to bring back home as many of the MERCURY's crew as they had been able to find. Many of the fears that had been predicted thankfully never materialized except for one, that not all of those who had ventured upon this journey would return. It was because of this that Elan had come here with his flute to complete what he had started that very same morning, taking the silver-coloured instrument out of his quarters twice in the same day. The music that he had played in the morning had been a soft melody of hope but tonight the music would carry with it the sorrow and sadness of the loss of one particular officer and of the giant's promise to protect the youngest of them. By the time this night would end the child would find a world very different from the one she had known leading the Oltharian to vow that he would do everything in his power to see that the child would never be alone.

Through the shadow filled room the Oltharian could see the small robotic disk that he had constructed as per the requirements of the room's primary occupant. Floater had been designed to assist Enaii in many of her duties but the small hovering robot had soon picked up a new task, that to protect and safeguard Talia. Despite this new directive the mechanical guardian had not opposed the giant's entrance into the room recognising him as a kind soul if not as its own creator. Although Elan knew that the small floating disk could not understand what had happened, the way it hovered amongst the shadows while the giant engineer played his flute make it seem as if it was on the verge of understanding that the life it had been meant to defend would never be the same.

After Elan had entered into the room the giant had settled on the floor in the living room as none of the chairs could support his massive frame. The Oltharian had not minded this at all making him appear less threatening to the child when she had emerged from her chambers in response to having heard the first melody fill her peaceful dreams. Because of her mother's dealing with the engineer Talia knew Elan and had not been surprised to see him, but instead of asking why the giant had come to be where he now was playing his flute, the child had stood in the shadows for a little while, watching and listening to the enchanting melody that filled the air.

When Capi had left her side to find a more comfortable location to enjoy the Oltharian's music, namely his right shoulder, Talia had followed suit and moved closer to the sitting giant while he continued to play. The youngest of the Draxx clan never spoke and only sat next to Elan allowing her head to rest on his side as sleep once again came to claim her small body. Fairborn inwardly smiled and prayed to the deities of his world as he held back his tears hoping that his music would keep the child's dreams safe for the night. The reality of girl's new life would soon enough be thrusted upon her and Elan had taken it upon himself to insure that she would at least get one last night of truly peaceful slumber before being made aware of her mother's demise.

While playing his flute Elan glanced at the window and at the streaking stars beyond it knowing that Talia had not been the only one affected by the reality that not everyone had been on their way home, but as much as the Oltharian had wished to help them all he found himself with all that he could handle in the form of Talia. Closing his eyes as he continued to play, Fairborn sent a silent prayer for the fallen Intelligence Operative asking for whatever power that was present in the universe to guide the woman's spirit to safety and home, wherever that may prove to be.
