Setting: USS ANUBIS, Security Office
Dinner with Ens. Summers and Ens. Mei had been fun, but Uxtar could not
wait to get busy with searching for more information about this USS
HATHOR. Hunting for information might not have been as stimulating as
hunting a live prey, but for the Hirogen this chase still seemed to be
worthy of his efforts and time.
"The HATHOR is an interesting little ship," Nico said bringing up the
schematics of the ship on one of his security monitors. "An upgraded
DEFIANT-Class Destroyer with enough firepower to punch a whole in the
largest of enemy Battleship. Small and maneuverable, that ship could
prove to be very formidable opponent to anyone who would find itself on
the wrong end of its pulse cannons."
"Did you say *maneuverable*?" The Hirogen asked showing that his
interests were not quite the same has his Nausicaan friend who had
looked at the ship's Tactical Systems the moment the information had
appeared on his screen.
"Very," Nico confirmed. "Try imagining the engine strength of a full
size cruiser shoved into the frame of a small 5-deck high destroyer.
Looking at the tactical readouts and performance evaluation of that
ship, I can see it flying circles around any ship several times its
size, including the ANUBIS. I just hope that the inertial dampeners on
board that ship will be strong enough to compensate for such rapid
course changes or the crew may very well find themselves become part of
the bulkheads."
Uxtar had been ready to ask to be told more about the HATHOR and its
flight capabilities when one thing struck the Hirogen. "Hold on a
minute, how did you get access to all of this information anyway?
Shouldn't it be classified?"
"It is," the Nausicaan grinned, "and there are still some sections of
the ship's performance ratings and tactical systems that are beyond my
clearance, but the ship's general overview was unclassified as per the
orders of Lt. Cmdr. Serenna." The Sec/Tac officer said, adding a soft
growl indicating that he suspected something.
"Why would the ship's ExO declassify information about another ship?
Better still *how* could she? Shouldn't that ability be restricted to
the CO and ExO of *that* ship?" The VIPER pilot asked out loud finding
the act strange since the HATHOR and the ANUBIS' ExO had already been
linked to certain rumors floating around the ship.
"I have a better question for you," Nico said. "Why would our ExO
specify that the declassified information be made *only* available to
the members of the ANUBIS' senior staff? Not only did she have the
authority to open the file, but she also seems to have the authority to
specify who gets to look at it. There is something damn strange going
on here," the Sec/Tac officer pointed out.
"Maybe we should ask her?" The Hirogen proposed, thinking that the most
direct path might prove to be best. Trying to uncover this mystery
without directly going to the Romulan/Terran hybrid could prove to be a
long and frustrating endeavor.
The Nausicaan nodded and hit a few controls on his security console.
"Internal sensors show Lt. Cmdr. Serenna to be in Holodeck 4," Nico
said pointing to the screen displaying that particular deck of the ANUBIS.
"Maybe we *should* go and pay our respects, who knows we might find
something interesting."
"Worst case scenario, we might be able to introduce Lt. Cmdr. Serenna
to a few good training programs." Uxtar added with a deep bellowing
laughter as the two of them left the Security Center to go see what the
ANUBIS' ExO had been up to and if they would be able to learn more
about this strange link she seemed to have with the HATHOR. Of course the
Hirogen thought that seeing the Sec/Tac officer and ExO just having a
conversation could prove to be even more interesting than trying to
find out more about this other ship.
