Setting: USS ANUBIS, Sickbay
Lea had just been about to step back into her office when the door to
Sickbay opened. The moment the CMO saw who it was Lea changed course to
intercept Serenna.
"How is David," the ExO asked. The way Serenna had asked the question
made it seem as if she had wanted to speak to their CEO. This made Lea
very grateful that she had decided to intercept the ExO. The reason
for was going to be explained to Serenna in a whispered voice away from
Sickbay.
"David is *resting*," Lea said. The CMO did not expect the ExO to
appreciate being led away but the CEO needed to sleep. As the ship's Chief
Medical Officer Lea had the right to override anyone, including the
captain. This might not have been a life-or-death situation, but Lea
believed that it had been necessary to protect David.
"Good," Serenna said flashing a brief smile at Lea. "I'll talk to him
tomorrow. In the meantime I need to speak to you about something."
**Now what?** Lea thought, rolling her eyes and regretting it after
seeing that Serenna had noticed what she had done. "What can I do for you
Commander?" The CMO asked, hoping to smooth things over with the ExO.
"Here," Serenna replied, giving Lea one of the two PADDs she had
brought with her.
Lea quickly read through the information and headed for her chair
afterwards. "The USS HATHOR sounds like a nice little ship. Should be
interesting, when do I get to see its Sickbay?"
The ExO remained stone-faced as she handed the second of the PADDs to
the CMO. "The specifics of the HATHOR's Sickbay are in here."
If it had been in anyway possible, Lea's eyes would have popped out of
her head as she read the info. "You are kidding right? This is not a
Sickbay, it’s a single bed with barely enough medical equipment to take
care of a bruised knee. How am I supposed to take care of injuries
with *that* and where am I suppose to stand while waiting for someone to
get hurt. The Bridge?"
Lea's last line had been sarcastic, but Serenna jumped on it as if it
had been made of gold. "Where else would the HATHOR's Ops officer be?"
"Ops Officer?" Lea said, trying her best to pick her jaw off her desk.
"You're kidding, right?"
"This is nothing more than a shakedown cruise," the ExO said.
"Therefore there should be no injuries for you to take care of. Also this will
be the perfect chance for you to expend your wings. You have done a
wonderful job with the ANUBIS' Sickbay, and I am sure you will do fine on
the HATHOR."
"I can't," Lea objected. "Managing the resources of a Sickbay is one
thing. Doing the same for a ship with dozens of decks and hundreds of
people is an entirely different matter. I could end up blowing up
something, why not ask Susan to do this? Better yet, get the Captain to be
the Ops officer for this mission. If something goes wrong she'll know
what to do better than anyone else."
"Captain Rikar will be onboard the HATHOR as an observer, nothing
more," Serenna said. "Plus the ship only has *five* decks and a total crew
compliment of 35. So I doubt that there will be any major medical
crisis happening during the mission."
Lea did not seem impressed, or overly enthusiastic about the idea. The
CMO thought about this a little longer and decided to offer the ExO an
alternative. "What about David? He could use a comfy 'desk job'."
"David has already been spoken for," Serenna said. "Lt. Fairborn has
asked that he be assigned to engineering under his supervision. That is
an assignment that I am still considering, but one that I prefer over
his being at Ops."
The CMO sighed. At least David would not be left behind, something
that would probably hinder his recovery. If not physically, mentally for
sure. "I'll take Ops, if you accept to take David on this mission,"
Lea said.
"Very well," Serenna said, accepting the conditions set by the CMO.
"It will then be up to you to convince David to accept the duties that I
have set for him. He will assist Lt. Fairborn and comply to his
authority as the HATHOR's CEO. If David is unable to do this, I will have no
issue with leaving him here on the ANUBIS."
"I'll talk to David first thing in the morning," Lea said, already
hating the additional job that she had been given. "At least that way he
will get at least one good night's sleep."
