The young woman stood at the back of the small bridge… her eyes trained
on the officers who had been too preoccupied by their respective duties to
become aware of the mother and child. As an observer Rikar had decided
to simply watch without commenting on the crew's performance during this
part of the testing of the HATHOR's systems… not that she would have had
anything negative to say. The ship might have been different but the efficiency of the personnel had not changed in the least… and maybe it had even somewhat improved because of the more relaxed nature of their current mission.
"Well done everyone… looks like we can call this part of the shakedown
cruise a complete success. Helm set course for our next objective…
S-7331." The half Romulan, half Human CO announced triggering an unexpected
reaction from the child who had been holding her mother's hand up to that point.
"No! Me want make boom!" Talia said as she ran to the station manned
by the Hirogen FCO who simply smiled down at the girl who had come to stop
right by his side.
"Sorry." The redheaded woman genuinely offered to the HATHOR's CO and
the rest of the bridge's staff, not having in any way, shape or form
expected such a reaction from her daughter. Initially the two had planned on
going to the Mess Hall for lunch but Sabrina had been curious to see the
HATHOR in action and had at the time not thought that their presence would cause any problem or even be a distraction.
Talia on the other hand did not give any indication that she had been
sorry for what she had done or said… and the way she had been staring at the
Hirogen it almost looked as if the little child had been ready and
willing to fight for the right to sit in that chair. Uxtar, uncertain as to
how to handle the situation that had developed with the daughter of the
ANUBIS' CO glanced back at the half Romulan, half Human woman in command of the HATHOR.
"How about you and I do a sensor sweep of the asteroid field and see what we can find?" The Shillian CSciO jumped in with. As the HATHOR's ExO Maya had figured that solving this had been her responsibility and since she and Talia had a good relationship, the shape-shifting woman had figured that of all of the officers present on the bridge she would have the best chance of success.
"Hia! Nan'ha hna arhva lohia!" The little girl promptly replied in
Romulan which only added to the aura brought on through her upbringing and
current selection of uniform… that of an SFI operative.
The young woman had been ready to scoop the child into her arms and remove from the bridge when the half Romulan, half human woman sitting in the captain's chair suddenly stood and intercepted the ANUBIS' CO before she could reach Talia.
"Ta'halia… Hnahn." Serenna said allowing the rest of the personnel on the bridge to hear something they rarely did… the ExO of the ANUBIS speaking Romulan. With a commanding motion of her head the HATHOR's CO instructed the Hirogen FCO to relinquish his station to the young child which he did with puzzlement and a hint of reluctant.
Talia took the vacated seat and immediately made herself comfortable…
at least as comfortable as a child her size could be given that the seat
had been far too large for someone of her stature. Resting on the very
edge of the seat, the child glanced over the layout of the flight console and
after a few seconds began to tap in instructions as though she had gone
through all of the necessary training.
After a few moments the ship began to move, turning back into the
asteroid field under the watchful eyes of the now standing FCO and CO.
"Captain… pulse cannons have been armed and are targeting that small
asteroid directly in front of us." The Nausicaan Sec/Tac officer
reported sounding less than impressed by the fact that Talia had not only taken control of the ship but had also found away to commandeer the tactical
systems which had been under his control.
"Faehor!" Talia announced in her mother tongue. Although not everyone
could speak Romulan, most understood that the child had indicated her
readiness and had been waiting for her superior to give the order to fire.
"Ie'yyak'hnah!" The half Romulan, half Human woman in command replied
as he eyes moved from the young child back to the main view screen and the
asteroid which had been made to stand directly in the centre.
"Pulse cannon firing!" Ens. Rostov announced a split second before the
energy bolts were seen heading for the floating rock and shattering it
into space dust.
"She's pretty good… for a kid." Uxtar quietly offered as he glanced
down at the child sitting in his seat who responded by glaring up at the
Hirogen without a hint of fear in her eyes.
"Target has been destroyed." Ens. Kea reported not entirely certain if
this had been something which needed to be acknowledged or even celebrated.
Without anyone saying anything Talia slide off the chair and returned
by her mother's side as if nothing had happened.
"We'll be going for lunch now." The young woman announced as she reached down and took her daughter's hand into her own and made a hasty exit of the HATHOR's command deck.
"Mr. Uxtar… if you would be so kind…" The CO said as she calmly returned to her seat while thinking that Talia had truly been her *mother's* child.
"Aye sir… setting course for S-7331." The Hirogen acknowledged as he took control of both his seat and station, thinking that in a few years he might have to test the child's skills at the controls of a VIPER.
