The Vulcan Ensign had much on his mind. Over the past days during his
time aboard much had happen some good some he wasn't too sure of. The good
was the friendship he was developing with Ensign Uxtar. There were times that he just could not follow the big fellow's thought processes, but than when they both spoke a fighter pilots language it all came together. It was because of this that Captain Serenna had requested that he teach him to fly the DRAGONSEYE, and although they could only do so on the holodeck Derek not only learned to respect Uxtar's flying abilities he trusted him to fly his ship.
The bad in his eyes was his inability to partake of the Memory Crystals as
others of the crew had, though he did understand the CMO's concerns it still did not make it easier. He felt that he could help... but after reading his history she would not allow it... all because he stood at the fourth level of the Kar'ne Hai discipline. This level authorized him to be a Kaatra carrier. The ability to carry what humans called the soul of another within himself, without losing his own. So he aided in storage and cataloging.
Looking around at those crew members still in the room, he picked up his
drink and silently toasted them.
The worst part of the whole mission happened only an hour or so back, when
he reported to the Admiral.
-----
Stormwind walked to the front of the desk and nodded to the Admiral.
"Reporting as ordered sir"
The man behind the desk was studing a PADD and waved at the Ensign to sit
down.
"Stormwind I have read the report not only of Lt. Cmdr. Serenna, but also of
Capt. Rikar. It seems you slightly impressed one but totally failed with the other."
The Half-human made to speak but the Admiral held up his hand to stop him.
"The fact that you disregarded my orders, that you boarded a vessel under my
command in a highly unorthodox and dangerous manner, and were watched doing highly questionable maneuvers with a holodeck HATHOR. Well sir that does not bode well for your career as an FCO."
"No Sir..." a stunned Derek replied.
"The truth be told however... many have seen the record of your actions.
Some praise you and of course some think you are a danger as a pilot. Capt. Rikar would prefer another FCO for the HATHOR for this mission. However your current CO feels confidence in your abilities. As do I. This may well prove a very difficult mission and so I am also authorizing the use ...If Needed... Of your ship."
"Yes Sir..." you could hear the smile in the young mans voice.
"It will be up to your CO but I am recommending and officially assigning
Ensign Uxtar as pilot of the DRAGONSEYE. I understand you have taught him to pilot her?"
"Yes Sir... He has had no real flight time but he is well qualified," The
Vulcan answered sadly.
"Good... Thats all than Ensign."
Derek stood and left the office. Returning to the HATHOR.
-----
Derek glanced at the wall chronometer, noting the time. He had agreed to
assist the yard workers in the emergency repairs to the ANUBIS. As hard as he knew it was going to be, to find out that your own Capt. had no faith in you stung.
Stretching to his full height he raised the Vulcan blocks within his mind,
pushing his human half into the deep recesses. He was Vulcan, and for this mission that was who he was going to be. He was the FCO of the USS HATHOR, by missions end he will have earned the respect of the crew, and grudgingly maybe a little respect from the Capt.of the USS ANUBIS.
The Ensign strode from the Mess Hall head high and went to begin his
projects.
