Setting: USS HATHOR, Susan and Lea's Quarters
Minutes after having crossed the border, Lea had started to pace up and down the small bridge of the HATHOR. The CO had not taken long to tell the CMO to take a break and return to her quarters. Being the true friend that she was, Susan had volunteered to tag along. They had done all that they could up to that point, so there was nothing more to do other than wait.
Since they had arrived in the room, Susan had quietly watched her friend try to wear down the deck plates. The room had been so small that the walking room had been restricted to a few meters. The Cns had figured only after a short while that David would have to change the floor within the next hour if this continued. So Susan decided to break the silence and put an end to Lea's pacing. This for the CMO's sake if not that of the ship and the CEO.
"Lea! Would you please *sit down*," Susan begged her friend. Standing in the CMO's way had at least made Lea stop pacing across the room. Unfortunately it was clear to see that it had not helped ease the woman's concerns.
"What if Maya is right?" Lea said, her body shaking with fear. "What if the Cardassians *are* at war with some other race? How are we supposed to deal with that? If we end up in the middle of this fight there will be no way for me to take care of all the injuries." Lea seemed on the verge of an emotional breakdown which Susan put an end to before it was too late.
"Lea, relax! Serenna is *not* going to allow us nor the ANUBIS to fall in the middle of a war. Also remember that we have no proof that this is what is actually happening. Our best bet is for us to concentrate on our mission and let the Cardassians deal with their problems." Susan had been forced to grab a hold of Lea's shoulders; luckily the Cns had not needed to go any further.
"I'm sorry," Lea said through a sheepish grin to her friend. "Being back on the HATHOR is bad enough, but going back to where Enaii died is making things worse. That we are not even certain that we can get her back is just pushing my nerves to the edge. Add to all that the possibility of problems within the Cardassian Union that may overflow into the Federation is driving me bonkers."
"Lucky for you that you are friends with the ship's Cns," Susan teased,
brushing a stray strand of hair away from Lea's eyes.
"Yeah," Lea nodded. "I've realised that. Thanks."
"Don't mention it," Susan replied, glad to see her friend back in
control of herself. "We could talk about David again. You seem pretty
relax when you are on that subject."
Lea blushed. The CMO had tried her best to keep a certain level of
professionalism when speaking about the CEO. It was obvious that she had
failed on more than one occasion. The moment Lea's mind went back to
when he had caught her, the CMO smiled. She had literally fallen into
his arms, and it had affected her more than she could describe. Not
that this had been a bad thing.
The CMO had been ready to move on to another subject when the HATHOR
violently shock. Instantly Lea returned to her previously nervous self.
"They found us!"
"Relax," Susan quickly said. "That did not feel like a weapon's impact.
=/\= Sorry about that, =/\= the CEO said over the ship's comm system.
=/\= that was just a minor problem which is already being fixed. =/\=
It was strange that the ship's ExO had made such an announcement, but
Lea had not cared. It had been as if David had known about how nervous
the CMO had been and that he had wanted to ease her fears. Whatever
David's reasons had been, Lea had been most grateful for what he had
done. That was of course only if he had not been the cause of the 'minor
problem'.
