The ship had been at a dead stop for the last half-hour while a discussion
on what to do was held. The pulse may or may not have destroyed the Imperian probe ships but there was no way to really be sure. The attempt to destroy them with weapons fire had failed and that was they sat still in space.
The FCO was holding station directly in front of the probes, prepared for
instant evasive manoeuvres should they show any sign of life. Just as his hunter
friend kept a weapons lock on them, even knowing that they would have no effect.
"What are our options?" The blond woman in the center seat asked.
The half human FCO turned in his chair, but quickly turned back when he
realized she was not opening the question for general discussion. But was
speaking to her XO/CEO.
Lieutenant Dawson stepped closer to the Captain to speak. "In honesty...
I don't know. They seem dead, but that's what we thought about the first one.
and look where that got us. Based on what we know of their composition, I do
not believe any of our weapons will be effective."
"Well we cannot just leave them, they may have repair capability. I sure
don't want to lead them to SURIAL lll, or to the ANUBIS. I need an option
David." The Romulan hybrid said looking up at her XO.
David leaned into Serenna and in a barely audible whisper..."Serenna as much
as I hate to say it. The Ensign's comment about going out to them maybe the
only viable option."
Though her face betrayed no emotion inside she was torn. If as David
suggests someone had to go out...who would she send. She knew that it was tantamount to a suicide mission one mistake and... Before she could answer her second in command her FCO coughed for attention.
Normally Derek would stay quiet and let the higher commands make decisions.
It was not like him to butt into a conversation no matter what the reason.
But he had an idea he felt might have been overlooked. "Excuse me sir...there might be another option."
The Captain gazed down at her half Vulcan Ensign and wondered which half she
would be dealing with Human or Vulcan. "And what may that be Mr Stormwind?"
Ignoring the obvious hint in her tone, he placed his mind in formal Vulcan
and went on... "The report said that the probe itself did not have a power
source, but was run by the power source of the *Battle Droid* inside it."
"That's true... so what's your point?" Dawson was quick to put in.
"Based on my observations, the fact that weapons fire is useless, that we
are only able to track them by their ionization trails, that means there must be an exhaust for whatever they use for propulsion."
Both the Captain and XO/CEO looked as if they were about to speak... but
the FCO went on.
"Most machines are linear, thinking in a directed path. So although the rest
of the Probe ship may be heavily armored... perhaps a precision shot up the
vessels stern would feedback into the main power supply. Logically there must be a connection between the two. This would not be a tactic usable in battle yet upon a stationary target such as we currently have it may work."
At first there was no reaction from the two higher officers. Than Lieutenant
Dawson spun to the engineering station and began calling up all the probe
data.
Serenna looking at her FCO for only a moment longer spun her command
chair around... "David?"
"Working on it Captain!" he spoke over his shoulder.
Derek slowly spun back to his console making adjustments to hold station.
His mind was strangely calm, for having stepped outside of his normal
actions. He knew he would pay for it later when his human half kicked into emotional fear mode yet for now, it was a step forward.
