Logan Hogg dashed through the front door and threw her cloth shoulder bag onto
the couch in her family room. Her house had been quiet, but the anxious and
nervous 16-year-old didn't mind. Logan dashed towards her room and plopped
herself down on the chair in front of a blank screen.
"Computer." she started commanding, out of breath, "Computer are there any
messages from the Starfleet Headquarters?"
Logan bit her lip back in anticipation. Why did the computer have to add more
suspense? The face of Admiral Talin showed up onto the screen. Logan leaned
her elbows on her knees, awaiting the news.
=/\=We, at the Starfleet Academy Headquarters, would like to congratulate you,
Logan Hogg, on being accepted to Starfleet Academy.=/\=
Logan jumped up so quickly that she tripped and fell into the chair, having
enough momentum to accidentally knock the chair backwards and fall onto the
ground. She caught herself by doing a summersault and landing on her feet. She was going to STARFLEET ACADEMY!!! This had always been her dream since she was 12 years old. And now, being just sixteen years old, Logan was going to go into Starfleet and become a Doctor.

"I caennae hae you go off to the Academy at the mere age of 16, love." Davis
placed his napkin down next to his empty dinner plate. Logan looked at her
father in disbelief.
"Well, faither, just a few months ago you said you were all for me pursuing what I wanted. And I want to cure and help others." Logan was about to throw her napkin AT him, not next to her plate. "What made you change your mind? I
really want to be up in space!"
Davis stood up and pushed his chair into the table and walked over to his
daughter. He stroked her short auburn hair and kneeled down beside her. "It's
just that I daennae wanna see ye go so soon, love. That's all." He stared at
her teal eyes and stood up. He was holding back his tears while he walked away
to his office. Logan looked down at the floor. After a while she went and
followed him there.
As she reached the door, she saw it cracked open a little and peeked inside. Logan saw him staring at the computer screen, viewing pictures from when she was little.
Slowly she walked in and put her arm around him. "I ken you miss mither. But I wull try to call ye every day I'm gone and keep up wi' ye life without me." She pulled up a chair next to him.
"Ye ken why I want to become a Doctor, faither. I still remember that day on ma twelfth birthday. Billy wus sliding' down the slide in the school ground. The laddie flew right off the slide down onto the concrete grounds. There was so much rid on the ground it was hardly concrete. The nurse cam and
transported him to the office. The next day Billy wus there without a scar on his face. From then on, all I want to do is help like that. I daennae want to upset ye, but it's what I waennae do, faither."
Logan put her arm on Davis father and leaned her head on his shoulder.
She really was going to miss him. Yet they both had separation issues, but
Logan knew what she wanted to do.
"It's time for me tae break free."
