Setting: USS ANUBIS, Stellar Cartography
Looking at the three-dimensional map of the region of
Cardassian space in which the Imperians had been
observed, the Romulan/Terran hybrid continued to
ponder the how and why which had been haunting her
thoughts the night before. According to all of the
data gathered through Intel channels and long-range
sensors, the Imperians had appeared out of nowhere and
had vanished just as quickly following their inability
to deal with the USS ANUBIS.
Grinning at the fact that the Cardassians would never
accept to accredit their good fortune to an unknown
Federation intruder into their space, the
Romulan/Terran hybrid could only fathom what the
Cardassian High Command had claimed to be the reason
of the invader's sudden retreat. Looking at the
extent of the devastation left behind by the Imperians
though, the ANUBIS' XO could imagine that the
Cardassians as a whole might have just been happy to
count their blessings.
Turning to greet whoever had walked into the room
after having heard the large double doors hiss open,
the Romulan/Terran hybrid was only partially surprised
to see someone other than the ANUBIS' CSciO whom she
had actually expected to find here when she had first
arrived. Appearing almost as stunned as the XO, the
expression on the face of the Enaran MCO indicated
that he too had expected to find the Shillian here
instead of the hybrid. Regaining his wits in mere
seconds, Pravat spoke first. "Commander, I was not
expecting to find you here."
Knowing very well of the growing relationship between
the CSciO and MCO, the XO decided to give the Enaran a
break and proceeded to explaining the reasons why she
had been in Stellar Cartography. "Since our return to
NEW ALEXANDRIA I have been thinking about the
deployment of the Imperian troops and their retreat
from Cardassian space. At first it was to assess the
potential threat to the Federation but the more I
thought about it the more things just seemed to not
add up."
Appearing relieved by the Romulan/Terran hybrid's
lack of interest in *why* he had come to Stellar
Cartography and had expected to find someone else, the
Enaran MCO jumped into the conversation. Approaching
the sitting XO, Pravat carefully studied the map
displayed on the large curved screen before offering
his thoughts on the matter. "I am just curious as to
how and why the Imperians made there way to that
particular spot before unleashing there offensive.
There are far better strategically advantageous
locations which could have been selected."
Nodding her agreement to the statement made by the
MCO the Romulan/Terran hybrid found her confusion only
grow with the latest bit of information added to their
investigation. Trying to understand the logic behind
the attacks carried out by the Imperians had proven to
be a near impossible task especially when taking into
account that their only goal seemed to be the complete
annihilation of all life.
Thinking it best to change the subject instead of
continuing along a course which the Command staff of
NEW ALEXANDRIA had already been hard at work on, the
Romulan/Terran hybrid asked; "Tell me Lieutenant, how
would you rate your troop's ability to deal with the
Imperians should we encounter them again?"
Not enjoying being taken off guard like this the
Enaran Marine took a few seconds to reply recalling
the conversation he and Brigadier General Carlos
Alvarez had on this very subject the night before.
"My men are as ready as can be, the real problem is
our technology. So far our weapons have proven to be
only marginally effective against the Imperian Droids
and there is no way for us to know if, like the Borg,
they will have adapted by the time we next encounter
them."
Pondering the threat the Imperians represented, not
only to the Federation but to the galaxy as a whole,
the Romulan/Terran hybrid could only hope that NEW
ALEXANDRIA's R&D division would be able to use what
little information the crews of the ANUBIS and HATHOR
had gathered to create something more effective in
dealing against the robotic menace.
