Setting: USS ANUBIS, Summers' Quarters
Lea snuggled under the sheets in her bed and although her eyes were
closed, her mind had still been at work. Thoughts of the ANUBIS' upcoming
mission and of the crew filled the CMO's mind. Everyone seemed busy in
their own right in regards to the mission to IRRAJ.
Just before Lea had retreated to the sanctity of her room the CMO and
Cns had spoken at length about IRRAJ. Lea had been quite interested in
what the people of that world referred to as the *medical field*. From
what the CMO had so far learnt many of the *treatments* used on IRRAJ
were primitive to say the least. Susan on the other hand had found her
interest fall on the people's religious beliefs. From what the Cns had
read there had been two distinct belief systems present in the
population. What had interested Susan most had been the division between these two faiths which perfectly followed the division of the classes.
Somehow, through the natural development of the civilization on IRRAJ
the higher class had developed their own belief system. Susan had not
at all been surprised by the specifics of these opposing beliefs. In
fact the Cns had found them to be an amazing source of discussion. The
higher class worshiped idols made of precious metals while the commoners
seemed content to pray to tress and flowers. One system dictated
strict rules to be imposed on all while the other advocated a more
open-minded attitude.
Lea had found herself swept away by Susan's zeal on the subject but in
the end the CMO's own concerns had won over. As much as Lea might have
liked to discuss the how and why of these opposing religions, the CMO
had found other things to monopolize her time.
The Doctor actually envied Susan and the other members of the crew who
had found something fascinating to focus on. The best example of this
had been Maya who had dove into the scientific achievements of IRRAJ
like a child at Christmas. To the CSciO there had been nothing besides
the discoveries which had lead the people to the stars. Lea on the
other hand could not help but visualise the people who had been made to
suffer because of a nearly nonexistent medical domain.
The more Lea thought about IRRAJ and its people the more she hoped to
have the opportunity to leave the palace and visit the cities. Although
the CMO would not be able to provide all of the necessary medical
assistance due to the Prime Directive, Lea would at least try to help those
she could. This had not been the first time the Prime Directive had
come in direct conflict with medical ethics. The majority of the time
Starfleet's first standing order had prevented anything to be done. This
time though Lea hoped that she would be able to use the Intel gathering
mission as a cover to done some good. There had been no need for
anyone, mostly young children to suffer from things easily cured with simple
antibiotics.
In the back of her mind Lea could hear Sabrina's warnings about going against the Prime Directive. The CMO could already hear the CO saying something in the lines of ::He might be the next Khan::.
Of course Lea's reply would be along the lines of ::That child might grow up to be the next President of the Federation or the next Shakespeare::. Whatever the argument would use as historical figure to make a point, Lea knew that the argument would be a heated. All that the CMO could do was hope that Sabrina's compassion would in the end temper her anger.
As Lea fell deeper asleep a soft smile crept onto her lips. All of
this would only matter if Sabrina or Serenna became aware of what Lea had
done. So the best course of action for Lea had been to make sure her
clandestine help remained unseen and unknown by any others onboard the
ANUBIS. At least unknown by those who would not be directly helping her
to make this happen. Lea knew she would be able to count on Susan,
David and maybe a couple of other members of the Senior Staff.
