Setting: USS ANUBIS, Sickbay
Lea would never have admitted it but she had enjoyed the last few
minutes tremendously. There had not been a single move the CMO had made
that had not been followed by the CEO. Each time David had been ready to
ask about his *surprise* Lea would turn away or harrumphed him back.
By now the sitting CEO had been ready to tackle down the CMO, but Lea
enjoyed seeing him on the edge like that.
"Are you ready yet?" David asked for the third time in less than a
minute. Lea turned and grinned to the man whom she thought had actually
been behaving himself.
The CMO just shook her head. "Not quite yet."
"That is the exact same thing you said the last two times," David
pointed out. Patience had never been one of his strong points but the CEO
had learned to better himself in that aspect.
"Time is a relative concept," Lea said with a grin. "If you want I
could ask Maya to drop in and explain this concept to both of us. Who
knows maybe we might learn something new," the CMO said in all seriousness.
"If it is all the same to you, I'll pass," David replied without any
hesitation. Waiting for Lea had suddenly not sounded all that bad when
compared to spending hours with the CSciO. It was true that Maya might
have been able to teach them something, but David knew that the
*lesson* would have likely been several *hours* long. "Doctor," David
continued, "if you do not have a surprise for me just say so. I do have other
things to do and we can always take care of this at a later time."
That made Lea stop dead in her tracks. Apparently she had pushed David
just a little too far and now she would have to work twice as hard to
make up for it.
"I do have something for you," the CMO quickly pointed out as she moved
closer to the sitting man. "I'm sorry that it may not be as
*glamorous* as you might have expected, but I *do* have a surprise for you."
"Anything you give or might have done for me will be more than enough,"
David said. It seemed that the CEO had a romantic streak in him, one
that few people had known about. "In fact if the surprise is for me to
be just here with you, it will have been more than enough to make me happy."
"You are too sweet for your own good," Lea said to the large sitting
man. For the next several moments the man and woman gazed into each
other's eyes. At least as much as their height difference permitted.
"Let's go," the CMO said as she took hold of the CEO's hand.
"Where are we going?" David asked. After all this waiting he had
actually expected the surprise to have been there in Sickbay.
"To see your surprise silly," Lea chimed back with a loving smile.

Lea and David walked into a wide open field under a star filled sky.
David instinctively looked up and tried to identify the constellation.
If he could figure any of them he would be able to know what world this
holodeck program had been based on.
"All right, you got me," David admitted. "Where are we?"
"IRRAJ," the CMO replied. "I found a few files in the NEW ALEXANDRIA's
cultural database. I thought this one suited the reason for our being
here best."
"Reason?" David asked. The devilish glance the CEO had shot had Lea
hinted to something on the naughtier side. Of course this made Lea
retaliate with a quick jab to David's arm.
"Get your mind out of the gutter," Lea said with a chuckle. "Here you
will experience the 'Festival of Life', a tradition enjoyed yearly by
the commoners of IRRAJ."
"Sounds like there is lot of work involved," David teased.
"You lazy bum," the CMO snarled as she tried to smack the CEO once
again. This time though David moved his arm out of the way. "The
'Festival of Life' is meant for you to look back on your life and realize the
impact you have had on the life of others. It is a way to reflect on
the person you are today and to see that however bad you might think
things are, they could have been worse. Much worse. It is also meant for
others to show you just how much you mean to them."
David shook his head. "Only because it's you asking me to do this,"
David sighed as he gave in and followed Lea's instructions as to what to
do next.
