Setting: USS ANUBIS, Holodeck 4
After watching the holographic images of the people of
IRRAJ celebrating, dancing, singing, and giving thanks
for life itself, David and Lea stayed in the background.
"So... what do you think?" the CMO asked.
David studied the images around him. With the mission
to IRRAJ, he knew that there was differences in the
culture. The 'commoners' to him didn't look like they
had a lot to celebrate, but it was Lea's words that
kept ringing in David's mind:
(excerpt from Tiffany's post)
::The 'Festival of Life' is meant for you to look back
on your life and realize the impact you have had on
the life of others. It is a way to reflect on
the person you are today and to see that however bad
you might think things are, they could have been
worse. Much worse. It is also meant for others to
show you just how much you mean to them.::

The CMO tugged on David's sleeve. "Are you ignoring me?"
David shook his head. "No... I'm still trying to take this all in."
Lea grinned, "Are *all* engineers this slow?" she teased and David smirked at her.
"For your information Doctor, I can determine if a
biobed has a hole in with without a biomechanical
emmitor," the CEO said with a wink, then sighed, "I
mean look at them. They look as if they're on their
last legs... and they're celebrating."
"Well... that's the beauty of it David," Lea said taking
the CEO's massive hand in both of hers, "*this* says
that you don't have to be rich or well off to be
thankful and grateful for what you have and your
impact on the lives of others. You know, you and the
IRRAJIANS have a lot in common."
David looked at Lea. "Oh we do? How so?"
Lea patted David's chest above his heart. "There has
been two occasions that we almost lost you David. One
I was there for and the other I wasn't, but the point
is you're here. And we that love and care for you are
better off because of it."
That got David to thinking. Was that a true assessment
of past events. For a while there when he faced the
court-martial David thought about what life without
Starfleet would be. Then when he winded up in the
airlock fighting for his life how easy it would have
been to succumb to the coldness of death. All the pain
he caused and the pain he was in would end. He'd be
one with his family again. David never followed a
specific religion, but because of his heritage he
believed in an afterlife. And in that afterlife he
would be with his parents and his brother. But a
speech from his great great grandfather and modern
medicine David was alive and well... and thankful.
"You really think so?" David asked Lea who once again
hit him in the arm.
"Yes I think so. You have a lot of friends here David. *We* would have suffered if we lost you. You just don't know how much you mean to me..." her voice trailing off.
"Huh?" David said, "how much I mean to who?"
"Us silly," Lea said kicking herself internally. Why
was it so hard for her to tell David how she felt. But
alas, such as each time the two of them enter a holodeck...
=/\= Serenna to Lieutenant Dawson. =/\=
"David here. Go ahead Commander."
=/\= Report to hanger deck 1 to supervise the launch of
the DRAGONSEYE. =/\=
"The DRAGONSEYE?" David asked, "and its being launched why?"
=/\= You'll be filled in by either Commander Maya or
Ensign Stormwind when you arrive. And I can see that
you're not moving Lieutenant... =/\=
David hated that aspect of Serenna. He looked into
Lea's blue eyes and she smiled.
"Dinner later?" she asked and the CEO nodded.
"I'm on my way Commander. David out."
