The moment the BLACK PANTHER had left taking the CMO, CSciO, Cns and
MCO on a journey of exploration through this strange new world, all of
the outside accesses of the ANUBIS were pried open to allow for air
and light to flood the blackened decks.
With Doctor Summers and Lt. Maya off the ship though Aki found herself
in charge of both departments, a fact that Captain Rikar had likely
overlooked when she had assigned the CMO and CSciO on this away mission.
"Aki," Elliot called out to the oriental woman leaning out one of the
open hatches, "I need your report on the status of you department."
Ensign Mitshiba signed. "You mean reports."
"Don't start splitting hairs again you know exactly what I meant. Not
every atom in this universe has to be perfectly named and identified
you know," Ensign Thomas said adding a large grin at the end.
"Actually I am now working on naming and identifying all of the
*cells* onboard the ANUBIS, not all of the atoms in the universe, that
would just take too long," Aki threw back in perfect seriousness.
"I feel a headache coming on again," Elliot said as he rubbed his
forehead and looked down at the floor at his feet.
"The report from the science department is simple: no power means no sensors. The only thing I can add is that I have a team working on finding a way to get some of the equipment working using wind-power. If they are lucky we might get a tricorder working," Akira said while she studied the watery horizon that seemed to stretch on forever around the ANUBIS. "Medically speaking though things are not that simple, we transformed the majority of the rooms on this deck into a makeshift Sickbay and we are doing our best to treat the broken arms, bruised legs and headaches. Thanks to the light and fresh air though I think that the instances of headaches throughout the crew will diminish, at least for the most part," the Assistant CMO added with a teasing smile.
"Noted," the ANUBIS Chief of Ops snickered as he wrote his report
using a pencil and paper.
The Assistant CSciO had been curious to know where these archaic
instruments had been found but instead Akira inquired about something
that she thought had been much more important. "Have you received any
news about your girls?"
Elliot smiled without restraint, "Samantha and Alice are both fine, a
little rattled but nothing that a few days on PACIFICA won't cure.
They are at the moment in our quarters trying to pass the time without
having access to a computer or any of their usual past-time activities."
"Now that the BLACK PANTHER is gone, they could go up on the hull and go for a swim, I am sure that our Hirogen Sec/Tac would be happy to provide them with adequate supervision. It would also double as a minor distraction from keeping an eye out for whatever else might be out there," Aki said glad to hear that the two girls had been found safe and sound.
"Maybe later," Elliot replied. "As you pointed we don't know what
else is out there and I would feel better knowing that the girls are
safe *inside* the ANUBIS instead of out there where some wild
monstrous beast could get to them."
Aki burst out laughing. "That is no way to describe a superior
officer, plus I am sure that Uxtar would object to you referring to
him as some kind of *beast*."
"That is not what I meant," Elliot signed with desperation. When she
got into one of her moods, nothing anyone could say or do would be
taken as it had been meant Aki having a knack for twisting the most
innocent of words and actions into something from a different dimension.
"ET, relax. I was only kidding. You used to be a lot more fun to
tease before you graduated from the Academy," Ensign Mitshiba said
while patting Elliot's hand. It had been clear that the stress of
their situation had started to get to him and her alike. "Tell you
what, how about we go for a walk on the outer hull? It may not be a
walk on the beach, but right now it's as close as we can get."
"Don't you have better things to do?"
"Hey, I'm the ranking officer for the Medical Department, and as such I think that a walk outside the ship to enjoy the fresh air will be the best available medicine for your headache," Akira said again sounding overly serious.
"Guess I can't argue against the Assistant CMO now can I?"
"Nope, plus if you do I can always arrange to have your replicator
create only that dish that you cooked for me on that night out."
"Ouch," Elliot winced. "That would be excessively cruel, guess I
should be thankful that the replicators aren't working at the moment,"
Ensign Thomas added before he offered his arm to Aki and the two of
them headed for the bridge where they would be able to access the
outer hull.
