Aki did her best to stifle her yawn, but there had been no use. After
all that had happened since they had arrived to this system which now
included having kept watch over ET's girls and being waken up in the
middle of the night by their CO the Assistant CSciO/CMO had barely
been able to keep her eyes open. Despite how tired she had been
though Aki did her best to study Fasham while inwardly wishing that
Maya had been here with them. Surely the CSciO would have been
thrilled to be next to a sentient, air-breathing, bipedal, *fish*.
"Now let me get this straight," Elliot said after Fasham had explained
something. It had been easy to see that the Ops officer had been
*awake* and on top of the situation, but Elliot also seemed a little
peeved about something. "You are telling us that there are *hundreds*
of different races on this planet and that they are all animal hybrids?"
Fasham seemed puzzled by the question which to him had made no sense.
All that the Human/Fish hybrid had said had been that the planet had
been inhabited by many different races, likely numbering in the
hundreds, and that the greater majority of them were in some sort of
conflict with the 'Cats'. Fasham had also pointed out that each race
had been blessed by their *maker* with unique skills reflecting of
their appearance.
"I think that at this time our primary focus should be how we can help
the members of our away team," the captain said. Fasham had been more
than forthcoming with information and appeared more than happy to
answer all questions, so it had not been wise to allow anyone to
become overly demanding in their ways or words. If the opportunity
presented itself the crew might be able to learn more about these
other races and this *maker* that had been mentioned.
"A ship should be here by daybreak and its crew will be happy to help
you in recovering your missing people," Fasham said. "In the meantime
though, and with your permission, I would like to return to the water
as I can only stay on dry land for a few hours at a time."
"Of course," the red headed CO said as she motioned for Uxtar to
approach and safely escort the fish hybrid off the ship. The moment
Fasham was off the bridge the CO turned to Aki and the other members
of the senior staff, "opinions?"
"There is something not right here," Elliot said. "Why are they so
willing to help us?"
"Logically speaking it makes perfect sense Ensign," the half Vulcan
FCO replied. "They may see us as a mean to tip the balance of their
conflict against the Cats in their favour."
"We are still bound by the Prime Directive," the CO said. "We are to
rescue our people with the least amount of interference in the
political makeup of their world. At this point I am more than happy
to see that they do not seem to be bothered by our appearance and
actually seem to be quite accepting of us."
"I had noticed the same thing," Aki added trying to stay awake long
enough to get this meeting done and over with. "We could conclude by
the reaction that we have observed that they have seen other
*Humanoids* like us before, the question is where and why?"
"There are just too many questions and not enough answers at the
moment," the CO sighed. "Everyone get some rest, we'll figure out
what our next step is tomorrow morning."
"She means later *this* morning," Elliot chuckled as he took Aki by
the shoulder and helped her get back to her quarters, making sure that
she would not fall asleep on the way there.
