Setting: USS HATHOR, Bridge
The young woman let out a sigh of despair as she watched the communication's display indicate that the system remained offline. Earlier in her career Rikar had held the positions of Science Officer and Medical Officer, neither of which had helped her resolve this matter… her only solace had been her short run at Operations several years back which had granted her a general overview of all the systems found on a starship.
It had been general knowledge that the ANUBIS' CO had a lack of understanding in the field of Engineering which had made her effecting maintenance and repairs on the HATHOR that much more difficult. Despite this the young woman had spent all night working on the ship's communication system with the hopes that if someone tried to contact the ship they would get more than an empty comm channel… so far though Rikar's efforts appeared to have done little to solve this matter.
"Note to self," the CO sighed, "next time be sure to leave someone on the ship who can actually *fix* something," Rikar said with a half grin as she glanced over the OPS station, half wishing that Ensign Thomas had been here with her.

"P338451 is now within range of our long-range sensors," Ens. Thomas announced from the OPS station. "Detecting no man-made orbital structures… Federation build or otherwise," the Ops Officer added as he searched for the missing probe that had been sent to this region.
"If the probe *was* shut down," the CO started as she turned to look at Elliot, "I strongly doubt that whoever did it would have stuck around for us to arrive to see what happened.
"That is of course assuming that the probe was indeed shut down, we still have no proof of this… in fact long-range sensors show so signs of debris or energy residue which leads us to believe that the probe may have suffered from some sort of malfunction and crashed on the planet," the CSciO countered with apparently unwilling to accept that the unexplored area they were entering could be hostile in some way.
"The probe could have encountered some sort of magnetic distortion," Elliot theorised. "That or maybe a localized gravity well… either way I suggest we approach with caution and polarise the external plating. It will make communications more difficult but will reduce the HATHOR's vulnerability to such phenomenon."
==========
The young woman closed her eyes as she allowed for her fatigue to claim her senses for a brief moment… had Elliot and/or Maya been on board this communications issue would have been dealt with a long time ago… alas the CO had been alone on the HATHOR still unsure if any other member of her crew had survived the harshness of P338451.
