While Austin and Carrie slip up to the roof to be alone, Sami secretly follows them. Nicole returns to the building and invites herself to the party. She complains about having to work and then Lucas hints that Austin's in for a big surprise tomorrow. Sami secretly listens as Austin and Carrie talk about the new year and their hopes. She finally interrupts as they're about to kiss and tries to get Austin to keep her warm. Instead, he removes his jacket and places it on Carrie's shoulders. Back downstairs, Nicole privately lets Austin know that he owns High Style. Tek calls John to let him know that Alex is very concerned about the danger Marlena faces from Lois. John insists there's nothing to worry about. When Tek orders him transferred to a different cell, Alex manages to escape. At the penthouse Lois arms herself with a pair of scissors and slips into Marlena's bedroom. Alex arrives but when he finds the bedroom locked, he tries to enter via the terrace only to be shot by John who has found out about his escape from Tek. At the hospital Belle refuses when Lexie suggests it's time to take Claire off life support. Meanwhile, a stunned Mimi accepts Shawn's marriage proposal and agrees to keep it a secret for now because of Claire. Bo gets a call from Chelsea who reveals that something bad has happened and asks for his help. Failing to tell Hope he helped Chelsea get her license back, Bo runs out to help her. Later, feeling bad about letting him on a sleep over, Hope decides to go get Zack. Bo looks at the damage to the car and assures Chelsea it's nothing to worry about. Hope arrives and starts screaming as she spots Zack's bloody body.
Hope tries to reassure her bleeding son that everything will be fine. Mrs. Morrison runs out of the house, shocked that Zack was outside. Hearing they'll have to wait for an ambulance, Hope won't wait and rushes her son to the hospital herself. As Bo assures a crying Chelsea that she probably hit a mailbox, Max arrives with a tow truck and finds the vehicle has a broken headlight. Chelsea pleads with Bo not to tell Hope. Though he insists he never lies to Hope, Bo relents as Max claims they can fix the car so it will look brand new. Bo then lectures her about accidents and she promises to finish her driving lessons. Marlena wakes before Lois can stab her with the scissors. John bursts into Marlena's bedroom and asks Lois what she is doing there. Marlena gives her an excuse and John reveals that he followed Alex here and found him outside trying to break into Marlena's window while armed with a gun. When the police arrive, John explains the history behind this shooting and the people involved. Refusing to believe Alex meant to hurt her, Marlena tells them about Alex's call warning her about Lois. Hearing Alex is still alive, Marlena insists on going to the hospital so John offers to accompany her. In Claire's room Lexie advises Philip and Belle that the girl now has acute liver failure. In the hall Victor warns Kate she better prepare Philip as he intends to tell Shawn the truth about Claire. Bonnie arrives and is thrilled when Mimi confides about the secret marriage proposal. Victor tries to tell Shawn about Claire being his daughter but Shawn interrupts and mentions he's engaged to Mimi. Kate's relived when Victor reports he didn't tell Shawn. Shawn panics when he's asked to meet Abe and Hope in the trauma unit. There, he sees Hope carrying in his injured brother.
