Diversity Gym Information
On the very same day that my first Pokemon Journey came to an end, I told my girlfriend Rilli about my idea to create my very own Gym in Lavender Town, my hometown, where I'd use a variety of Pokemon Types. When I got home, I called the Pokemon League to ask for Gym funding. I left a message on Lance's answering machine, telling him my idea. A League Tournament was in progress when I called, so it took about a month for the Pokemon League to contact me. Lance turned down my idea. For a moment, I thought my dream was over...
But the person who had contacted me to tell me that Lance had turned down my idea was Agatha of the Elite Four. She had a soft spot in her heart for Lavender Town since it was the home of Ghost Pokemon, her favorite Type of Pokemon. Knowing that a Gym would bring more people into Lavender Town, she decided to fund my Gym and sent me my very own Indigo Credit Card. Soon after that, Mr. Fuji, my mentor, got me an abandoned warehouse to build the Diversity Gym in, and within days, the construction workers who worked on the Giva Dam were building my Gym. My dream was now becoming a reality!
The Diversity Gym has four different rooms, a hallway, and a vestibule. In the vestibule, Trainers can leave their Pokemon to be bred. The Pokemon are usually placed in rooms based on their Type as follows:
Pool Room - Water, Ice, and Dragon
Sky Room
- Flying, Electric, and Psychic
Greenhouse Room - Grass, Ground, and Bug
Volcano Room - Fire, Rock, and Ghost
(Normal, Fighting, and Poison alternate. Steel and Dark are placed based on second Type.)
Each Room in the Diversity Gym acts as both a Breeding Center and a Pokemon Arena. While the rooms are made to look like the Pokemon's natural habitat, each room has an Arena in the center of it. When someone challenges me, the Gym Leader, to a Pokemon match, they get the chance to choose which Room they would like to challenge me in or they can waive this right and allow me to choose for them. The Sky Room has a dome over it that opens up and trees for Flying Pokemon to perch on, the Greenhouse Room has plants, dirt, and soft sand in it, the Volcano Room has a pool of lava in it (the room's only light source) and has large rocks around and within the lava pool, and the Pool room has a large pool of water in it, with platforms floating around within it for Pokemon who cannot swim. If you win the Pokemon match, you earn your very own Oasis Badge!
The Diversity Gym is easy to find once you're in Lavender Town. The Gym is conveniently located at 1000 Tower Road, in-between the Lavender Town Pokemon Center and the Kanto Radio Station, which was called Pokemon Tower before it was turned into a Radio Tower. From Saffron City, take Route 8 due east past the Pokemon Center. If you're arriving at Lavender Town through the Rock Tunnel, take Route 10 southbound, and the first building you'll see is the Diversity Gym. If you're taking Route 12 to Lavender Town, walk or bicycle north past the Soul House and keep going until you arrive at the Diversity Gym.
