The Slow Pokemon Appreciation
Society's Official Website
(Many thanks to Rilli, my girlfriend, for making this awesome SPAS logo!)
The Slow Pokemon Appreciation Society was created in November of 2001 to promote the use and appreciation of Slow Pokemon such as Slowbro. Many people in Kanto and Johto adore the fastest Pokemon in the world, for example Electrode, but the slowest Pokemon often tend to be overlooked.
This is an old picture of my Slowbro.
My fascination for Slow Pokemon began when Bill, the famous inventor, traded me a Slowpoke for a Psyduck. The Slowpoke helped my earn my Boulder Badge, quickly evolved into a Slowbro, and ferried me around. I then caught a slow Geodude, who soon became my most loyal Pokemon. I later caught a Snorlax and appreciated all the battles it won for me against faster opponents.
If you love Slow Pokemon and want to join the SPAS, you just have to visit the Diversity Gym in Lavender Town, fill out an application, pay a small fee, and recite this oath:
"I promise to appreciate and promote the use of slow Pokemon, educate those who doubt their worth about their strengths, and applaud Trainers I encounter who own them."
As a Slow Pokemon Appreciation Society Member (or SPASM), you receive these benefits:
A beautiful gold and silver Slowpoke-shaped lapel pin with the acronym "SPAS" on it
Issues of the SPAS semiannual newsletter are delivered straight to your Inbox
Leave one Pokemon at the Diversity Gym's Breeding Center, leave another for free
Membership is open only to residents of Kanto, Johto, and the Orange Islands. However, if you live elsewhere, I still encourage you to appreciate and use slow Pokemon.
Current member roster:
Robert, President and Founder of SPAS
Rilli, Vice President of SPAS
Granted, SPAS currently does not have very many members, but keep in mind that SPAS was created only four years ago, back during the Johto Pokemon Rush, when people were more interested in finding Metal Coats for their Scyther than appreciating slow Pokemon. I hope the SPAS will grow now that Johto's Pokemon are also available in Kanto. I imagine Onix's evolution must be really slow. Spread the word - slow Pokemon are cool!
