MUSICAL INFLUENCES

MY GRANDFATHER

Both my grandmother and my grandfather on my dad's side were professional violinists. My grandmother was my grandfather's student while he was teaching at University of Georgia. He also taught at Hong Kong University; Ehwa University in Seoul, South Korea; and in Japan, to say the least. He traveled to many places abroad to play for others. His position was a master first-chair violinist in the Atlanta and Rome Symphony Orchestras of Georgia. His parents gave him a violin when he was four years old and until the day he passed away, he had made it his life and created such wonderful and beautiful music. He is passed along now, but his music and his passion for the violin will always be remembered within me. The vibrations of his music alone, if not the passion on his face, created such a vibration within myself as well as in many other Atlantans that have outlived the man himself. I do not know if my devotion to music and the vibrations of sound in my own life have come from him or from a past life, but I do know that he has certainly left such an impression on me.
