When I sent an e-mail to Peter Vella Winery if their boxed wine was chemically fermented, this is the answer I got. It seems that some Box wine is not chemically altered.:
With regard to your question, according to our winemakers our boxed wines are produced in the same exact manner as our wines in bottles, by the conversion of grape juice into alcohol by yeast. This is the fermentation process in its simplest form.
