Conclusion: DIY Alky Injection
So, what did I get from installing all of this on my daily driver? Lots of things! Currently, I am running 22-23psi of boost, on 91 octane pump gas. Driveability is completely unaffected, and in fact, thanks to Eric "Tweak" Marshall, is ten times better than it was before with my old street chip. If any of you Turbo Buick owners out there need a chip, he is your man. Visit www.turbotweak.com to order a chip from him. Trust me, he knows what hes doing. He burned a chip for me without even doing any tuning in-car with his labtop computer. The chip in my T-type has 23.5 degrees of timing in 1st and 2nd gear, and 22 degrees of timing in 3rd gear. I have seen as much as 24psi of boost with no knock. But due to the limitations of the stock turbo and intercooler, I have backed the boost down to the 21-22psi level. Trial runs have produced less than 3 degrees of knock (via Scanmaster 2) on initial spool up and no knock from that point on. The car runs great, and pulls hard. If Im not in the mood to thrash the car, I can drive "normal" with the AC on, and still get my 18-22mpg. But if I run into something that requires me to go WOT, I know that I have an edge against the competition. So far, I have been buying alcohol about once every two weeks depending on how much I beat on the car. I can deal with that! I cant believe I waited this long to do alky injection. It is definately worth the time and effort. The car is much more enjoyable to drive and is a monster from about a 10-20mph roll. I guess I need to think about investing in a posi soon.
Future Plans: DIY Alky Injection
Right now, the car runs good. Since installing the alky system, I have become motivated to improve a few things on the car without spending money.?? I have?? ported? out my turbo inlet bell and my compressor housing. I a???lso? instal?l?ed? a heavily ported stock exhaust elbow in the hopes of getting more air in and out of the engine. I am thinking ??about bell-mouthing the intercooler inlet and the throttle-body to doghouse area, but have not yet. When I have the car totally tuned in and trouble free,?? I plan on taking the car to the race track to get an idea of what I have picked up in "street trim". I will be running the car with: 16" Street Tires Non-Posi Rear End Full Weight, w/ Stereo (3620lbs w/ 1/2 tank fuel) Pump Gas and Alky Open Dump Exhaust I will post new times and mph when possible. Currently, I have a flaring transmission and really dont want to break my daily driver. Kinda funny how the weak points show up when you start to make a little more power.? ? ??Keep checking back for updates. If you have any questions or comments, please dont hesitate to email me.
