ABOUT THE GRAIL

GRAIL is the culmination of many years of work, conceived by Ian O'Reilly, and completed, following his disappearance in Wales (possibly whilst seeking the Grail, possibly just whilst getting VERY drunk) by myself, DJ Tyrer. For those wondering what it is about (although the title might give you a slight clue...) GRAIL was open to ANY story featuring or relating to the Grail in some way: not just a gilded chalice or Celtic cauldron but any variation on the quest object theme, not just fantasy or history but science fiction, humour, and horror. Poetry and prose. Which is what we received. Some of the tales directl;y relate to the Grails of mythology, others play with the concept. And, if you have an idea for a Grail-related story, GRAIL II is on the drawingboard, so please do get in touch....

Now, at last, we have the GRAIL in our hands (in papery form) and you, the reading public, may purchase one at a reasonable price!

GRAIL contains the following pieces of work:

GRAIL - a short introductory poem of mythic imagery by Aeronwy Dafies.

THE STONE OF HEAVEN - a retelling of Lucifer's fall and the Grail's potentially heavenly origins, by myself.

FALLEN FROM HEAVEN - a tongue-in-cheek, paranoia-laced tale of conspiracy by Chris Lovegrove.

ISLAND OF THE DAWN - a more traditional tale of Arthurian Grail mythology by Pamela Harvey.

THE GRAIL OF DERWANDIR - a pulp-SF treatment of the myth by DS Davidson.

THE KING FISHER - "a nicely told magical story" (NEW HOPE INTERNATIONAL) by Aeronwy Dafies.

MAGUSTO AND THE FULCRUM - does indeed have something to do with the Grail (despite one reviewer's assertion
otherwise!), being a quest tale in which the Grail-type object, the Fulcrum, takes a more prosaic form than gilded
cup or mystic cauldron... A pandimensional piece by Neil K. Henderson

YE TALE OF YE GRALE - an entirely serious and highly scholarly work by myself, being composed of translations
from ancient scribely scribblings and most definitely not a spoof or parody or "send-up... really for children's
periodicals" (NEW HOPE INTERNATIONAL - um, who defined the parameters of this anthology? Are
children not allowed to enjoy the Grail mythology?). Featuring the famous (well, to one or two people) Sir
              Blodry!

HAVE A CARE IN WHAT YOU WISH FOR - a long poem by Steve Sneyd that perfectly captures the entirety of the                 Grail mythic themes in poetic form.
