Our guidelines are very simple and not too onerous to follow! We welcome new and unpublished writers, as well as veterans - there is no need to include a list of publication credits with your submission or to point out that you are a novice (as the case may be) as we will consider all work on its individual merits.
What we want: We will consider nearly anything! Short stories, vignettes, poetry, articles, interviews, reviews, letters of comment, artwork, photos, and more will be considered! The only restrictions we place on submissions is that they not be too full of swearing, sex and gore (if uncertain, please query). Unless you specifically state that a submission is not to be considered for other magazines/projects, we will consider it for all our magazines, even if the envelope/covering letter is addressed to a specific magazine.
Lengths/Sizes: Due to constraints of space, we do not normally publish prose longer than 10,000 words, although sometimes we will consider serialising longers stories or articles. Most poetry we publish is under 100 lines, but we have published 'epics' in the past and probably will do so again! (We are also more likely to consider longer pieces for anthologies than for the magazines.) If uncertain, please query. Artwork should be no larger than A4 size (we prefer A5 or A4 for artwork as we can size it to fit most easily).
Layout: We are not too fussy about layout as long as the piece is readable (so preferably printed) and has your name and address on it. (We cannot stress that enough - people have missed out on issues for not including it - PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR NAME AND ADDRESS ON YOUR SUBMISSION!!!) Please print on one side only. Spelling and grammar should be as good as you can make it! Artwork/photos should be ready to scan and unfolded, with your name and address on the rear.
Rights: We prefer First British Serial Rights, but will consider previously published work - but please tell us where and when it was published! You should not offer the work for publication elsewhere whilst it is with us without telling us or withdrawing it. We retain the right to make any modifications necessary to the work, although we try to avoid doing so (and, if changes are extensive, will contact you before proceeding). Most changes we make are corrections of grammar, removal of swearwords (where not key to the work) and similar. You may withdraw your work at any point upto a month before the first day of the publication month of the magazine (ie for an issue due in June you may withdraw up until the end of April). For anthologies, booklets and similar one-off projects you may withdraw your work upto three months before the first day of the projected publication month (ie for a June release that would mean up until the end of February). If no specific publication date is given (as with Bard) work may be withdrawn as long as the work has not been prepared for publication (so contact us as soon as possible if you change your mind!).
Submitting: Send your submissions by post to the editorial address with a self-addressed, stamped envelope (IRC or US $2 and envelope if overseas) - remember to include sufficient postage if you want your work returned! If you do not wish your work returned you may include an email address in place of the SAE for your reply. You can also send submissions as in the body of an email to atlanteanpublishing@hotmail.com (no attached documents). We endeavour to reply to all submissions as soon as possible, but it can sometimes take a while - if you do not receive a reply within six weeks please query in case it has been lost in the post! Please do not send the same submissions by both post and email - this can cause confusion and wastes my time! Send no more than one longer story, three short stories or ten poems at a time to ensure a prompt reply. If you have not submitted to us before, we recommend reading some of our publications first and not sending too many submissions at first in case you decide we are not for you or we decide your work is not for us (we don't care if you send lots of work blindly, but return postage can be costly!).
Please Note : Starting from December 2009, we will be closed to submissions during December and January so please do not send anything during those two months by post or email. The rest of the year remains completely open to submissions.
Payment: We do not pay for work, nor do we charge any reading fees or restrict contributions to subscribers. We are a non-profit making endeavour. However, all contributors receive a free, complimentary copy of the magazine/anthology they appear in.
