I searched geocities for "elegy beauty" and suprisingly came up with your poem, Elegy and Beauty. For awhile I was anarchist, but i realized i didn't believe in the inherent goodness of people. Governments are horrible, corporations are worse, power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. But you can never remove all differences in power. People are born with them. My anarchist friends argued that rape and murder were symptoms of the sickness of our society, but that's bullshit. That kind of thing happens all over the nature channel. It's instinct. What we have is bad, but i doubt anar hy would be any better. |

I'm against all civilization and I can certainly understand why you, as an anarchist, would be opposed to government. However, by advocating the use of violence (at least in theory, if not in practice) you instantly become just as inhumane and dangerous a the society that you were protesting against to begin with! Would'nt be alot healthier to have everyone just ABANDON civilization instead of trying to kill off something that has you both out-numbered and overpowered? |

"mwe" is a small, "barely for profit" publisher which brings out quality literature bypassed by conglomerates more interested in market share. While small and idealistic, mwe is also pragmatic, and our books find their way into the likes of Barnes & Nobl , Border, amazon.com, and independent booksellers everywhere. One of mwe’s projects for 1999 is to publish an anthology of xer poetry, a collection reflecting that generation’s views, issues, concerns, and angst, all in their own words. That is the work ng title for the anthology - "In Our Own Words - Xer Poetry". Submissions are being sought for this book from all over the world, from all walks of life. Writing skill is of course a factor, but more important is how effectively the persona of the x-g neration is expressed, its passions, joys and pains. Submissions can be made to mwe@interpath.com, or MW Enterprises, 3903 Capital Blvd., Suite 194, Raleigh, NC 27604, USA. Please include a full name, geographical location, and contact address with each submission, as a release must be sent and returned for each poem chosen to appear in this anthology. Those wishing to gain a flavor for who I am, Marlow Peerse Weaver, owner of mwe, might want to read my novel, A Small Fire Burned on Windy Hill (ISBN 1-5 901-882-0, which is available through amazon.com and most booksellers, or the book Life Between Azalea Festivals by Amy Jo Wood, being released by mwe in September. There are no restrictions on the contents of submissions, as mwe wishes to publish an hon st, open and uncensored reflection of a generation. While no payment is being offered, if the published anthology manages to not only cover publishing costs but achieve a profit, a significant portion of that profit will be distributed to the authors of the poems published. Looking forward to receiving your submissions and those of other xer poets. regards, mpw "Help keep what we read from being limited by conglomerate control of the market." |

Hi. Housman once defined the writing of poetry as the act not of finding the right words but of getting rid of the wrong ones. Your good lines (and there are many) are dragged down by the prose you didn't really think about. As to getting your subject and a titude into poetry, you might see what Thomas Hardy (Collected Poems) did with social angst (I find him a little depressing, myself, but he was a good craftsman when he finally got over Shelley). Above all, keep on writing; it's the only way you learn (o her people's poems give your craft a little knowledge and direction, but your hand has to learn the tools). |

hey dj. I really like your imagery, and like as well how your political agenda complements rather than getting in the way of the openness and beauty of the poems. But mostly I'm here to tell you not to take my comment on the poetry webring message board as a personal attack - which it most certainly was not. Although I am sometimes a bit wary of poets who have a practically infinite number of poems available onlin , since I worry that it makes it that much harder to appreciate good work when one is feeling overwhelmed, a good organizational structure does temper this somewhat. And of course a writer writes; one should not by any means stop or slow the process of c eation, as practice does contribute to perfection. I meant instead to suggest that I MYSELF was very self-critical, and that I was thus at "fault" if anyone in not loving my lesser children as well as what I consider the greats. I admire your love of yo r own language, as evidenced by the large number of poems here - for care for one's own work comes through the language of that work, and the reader knows how much you have invested in your language. |

Believe me if the USA had really believed that "A better way" and "getting more" were part of everyday life -- and that foreign nations deserve wealth too -- then the population would be much lower today. And every person would be an active part of an "ex anding marketplace" (more buying per capita). There would be no reaping without sowing. But holding people down just multiplies them, even though it may eat up fewer calories. But we could have done it. Can we now? |
