Common courtesy is no more common than common sense.

When referring to my grandmother's sister I use the simpler and more correct term, "grand aunt," instead of the more popular "great aunt" because it's less confusing; this makes your great grandmother's sister your great grand aunt.

When referring to what some have called the Civil War, I call it what it really was, The War for Southern Independence.  I have at least four ancestors who fought for Southern independence, and even a few misguided souls, distant relatives, who fought on the wrong side.  All those I can track down will be listed here with respect.

Politics?  From a 25 October 1999 speech by Pat Buchanan: "The two [Republican and Democrat] parties have become nothing but two wings on the same bird of prey."
Quote from
Hugh Downs on Politically Incorrect (1997):  "All the really good ideas belong to the Libertarians."
Quote from
Thomas Jefferson: "Were we directed from Washington when to sow and when to reap, we should soon want bread."
The trouble with politics is that it attracts too many politicians.  So instead we're doing genealogy, where all the politicians are dead and can't do us any more harm (we hope).

You can "listen to your heart" as long as you remember that it has an I.Q. of zero.

I work mostly on my own genealogical research, but if you or your relatives have origins in Georgia, and particularly the area to the east and southeast of Atlanta, I can research directly the courthouse, library, and other local records.  For a small fee, of course; I support capitalism, especially my own.  Click
