As an actor, Patrick McGoohan gave great face.  That doesn't just mean he was a good-lookng man.  (Make no mistake, to the end of his life he was an extraordinarily good-looking man.  Keep reading, male visitors, this isn't that kind of page.)  McGoohan had an exceptionally mobile face and the ability to convey the essence of a character through a twitch, a squint, the barest hint of a smile, or a look seething with rage.  Even when playing the most dispassionate of men, he found the passion within them and made it palpable.  He shared with a bare handful of actors (Robert Mitchum comes to mind) a gift for creating powerfully physical portrayals.  In many ways it was the opposite of Method acting, although the results were no less vibrant and affecting.
