May 15, 2002 I went to my 33 week appt expecting yet another ultrasound of my cervix. I was surprised when Dr. Adams said that he doesn't plan on doing anymore ultrasounds of my cervix because we already know that I'm 75% effaced. Instead, he said he will just be checking for dilation. He checked me for dilation and said I am a loose 1cm dilated. I'm not completely positive what he means by loose but I'm assuming that he means I'm 1cm, maybe a little more dilated but not quite 1.5 cm dilated. Anyway, I'm hoping that I don't dilate too much by next Tuesday. Tony told Lissy to stay put for a few more weeks and I told her that we are definately not ready for her. Well, I'm not ready in terms of knowing that the longer she stays put the better and I don't have her stuff ready for her but.....for comforts sake, I'm more then ready for her to come! We just received a webcam in the mail from my mom and I started playing with it. I have one belly picture and one preggo stretch mark picture. They aren't the greatest quality but hopefully they will get better as I learn how to play with the camera and lighting more. May 25, 2002 I felt sooooooooo bad for Dr. Adams Tuesday! The poor man was running around like a chicken with it's head cut off!! LOL He got to my appt late, which didn't bother me, I mean, it's not like I had anywhere I had to be! LOL The reason he got there late was because he was finishing up a c-section! He came into the exam room, sat down, and commented that he still had some blood on him! LOL That didn't bother me, as it was on the little booties on his feet. He said he didn't want to check my cervix this week because he didn't want to "stir things up" and that we already knew I was 1-2 cm dilated last week and 75% effaced and I obviously was not in labor. He measured me and I measured right on as usual. Lissy's heartrate was between 140 and 150 which he said it always has been (which just proves what I tried telling the nurse last time I was monitored about her heart rate...it was going from 116 to 150 and I told the nurse that under 130 was NOT normal for her...the nurse didn't listen). He said he plans on re-checking my cervix next week and I will get to come off of bedrest on Tuesday. I gained another 2lbs so I'm weighing 151 (ack!) and it's a total of a 31lb gain. I asked Dr. Adams what I could do about the back spasms I've been having and what would be causing them and he said that everything being "out of whack" could be the cause and I had a choice of three things to help ease them. I can have Tony rub my back (which he does when he's home and it does help...ALOT), I can lay on a heating pad for 20 minutes at a time 3 times a day, or I can take Tylenol. It was a pretty good appt in all. I now have her bassinet and the stroller put together. I still need to call and find a Ped for her. I also need to wash her clothes and have Tony clean out the truck so we can put the carrier in it. Other then those few things, we're actually ready for this little girl to come whenever she choses to make her appearance! I do need to remember to ask Dr. Adams about the pelvic and rectal pressure I've been feeling. Ah it's getting so close and we are both so excited about it! May 29, 2002 Since last Saturday, I have been having a lot of back pain. This pain mostly comes and goes but I couldn't find anyone who could tell me if it sounded like back labor or anything, so I did nothing about it. Sunday morning I lost part of my mucus plug and continued to have the back pain. Monday, I woke up from a nap to go potty and felt like I had peed on myself. I went to the bathroom and still had a full bladder. My first thought was "could this be some amnio fluid?" so I decided to keep an eye on things and call or go in if I leaked any more fluids. I figured, it would be better to go in and find out that it was not amnio fluid and get sent home then it would be to be leaking amnio fluid slowly and then end up with an infection. At about 11pm Monday night, Tony and I decided to go into the hospital. When I got there, they said that the test came up negative for amnio fluids but the on-call doctor wanted me admitted to Labor and Delivery since I was 3-4 cm dilated. I was hooked up to the monitors and found out that the back pain I've been having is from contractions. I don't feel them in the front, but that's probably because the pain in my back is so intense that I just don't notice it. I was having some pretty strong contractions but they weren't too regular. Dr. Adams came in at 8:30AM and checked me and said I was 4cm dilated, 80% effaced, and at a -1 station. He told me that at this point I am too early for them to do anything to make me go into labor but that I'm too far for them to try to stop anything...so I was told to get up and walk around for a few hours and we'd see if that would put me into active labor. Tony and I walked around the hospital and at one point it looked like things were progressing...at least they were pain-wise. After about another hour or so, things calmed down and I was actually able to fall asleep. At 4:30PM, Dr. Adams came back in to check me again and he said that things really hadn't changed much...I was 4-5 cm (4 cm but could be stretched to 5cm), still 80% effaced, and still at a -1 station. The contractions had lessened and become even more irregular. He gave me a choice of going and spending the night in prenatal or going home. I chose to come home. I will go back if I start having regular contractions...whether they are in my back or stomach. I am making a "tenative" appt for next Tuesday when I'll be 35 weeks 6 days (although Lissy seems to think she's a day ahead)...just in case this little girl decides to stay put awhile longer. |
