HYAKUNEN NO MONOGATARI
("story of one century")

The story traces the lives of three generations of women, from the early decadent 1920's years, throughout the War years, into modern times.  Matsushima Nanako stars as the female heroine in all three tales - as Aya, a brave girl trapped in a loveless marriage who dreams of a world far beyond her time, when women will be free to choose for themselves in "ai to nikushimi no arashi" (the tempest of love and hate); as Junko, Aya's daughter, struggling to survive in war-torn Japan in the post-WWII US Occupation years, who unwittingly falls in love with an American soldier of Japanese nationality in "ai wa kanashimi wo koete" (love surpasses sorrow); and finally as Chijiro, a career woman trying to come to terms with her mother's desertion, when fate throws her into the path of the man who is the great-grandson of Aya's lover in "Only Love"....
