Akiko and Jun rush Yohei to Todai University hospital, and also his life is not in danger, the doctor tells them that he has suffered a severe stroke which will leave the right-side of his body paralysed, and will also affect his ability to speak. Akiko asks if he'll be able to recover, and the doctor says that they aren't sure for now, and needs further observation. Sakuma tells Shinichi about Yohei being admitted into their hospital, and Shinichi feels guilty, wondering if he was responsible for Yohei's collapse. Sakuma tells him not to blame himself, saying that Yohei has been long diagnosed with stroke symptoms. Apparently Yohei's doctor, Osata-sensei, was Shinichi's senior when they were in medical school. He asks Shinichi what he plans to do now. Shinichi says he wants to continue his work on autism, and that he has decided to re-enter the medical profession. Mayuko goes to visit Yohei in the hospital and apologises, saying it's her fault, but Jun says that he also has to shoulder some blame, but tells Mayuko that Yohei is temporarily incapacited and will recover soon. Jun then calls Takuma to tell him about Yohei's collapse, and thanks him for giving them Rina's article, saying that Shinichi and Mayuko are no longer seeing each other. Shinichi goes to ask Osata-sensei about Yohei's condition, and asks him to do his best for Yohei. As he leaves the hospital, he sees Rina, who said she was here to give him an explanation about the report. They go back to his office and she gives him this lame excuse how she had committed herself to writing it a lot earlier. Shinichi says that he'd stopped seeing Mayuko and that it's probably for the best. He tells Rina that even though Muki and Mayuko had different disorders, he faced the same problem with both of them in that he wasn't sure of the right way to relate to them. Rina's report made him realise that he too was at fault. He then says that after all that she's done, the person she's hurt most is herself, and things should be put to rest now. Rina says that although she was determined to be the one to help Shinichi with his problems, it ended up that Mayuko was the person who helped him put things behind him, and to regain his tears. But she still hoped to help him become a doctor again... and he tells her that he'd already decided to, and she says that too is due to Mayuko. She then asks to see Mayuko's drawing, saying that there could be some hidden secret in it, and saying that this is the last thing she wants to do for him. He shows it to her, and she notices a strange marking beneath all the dark scribbles... At home, Mayuko, with Misaki's help, is working on her homepage. She tells Misaki of her determination to make it on her own, without troubling others, and how she is also studying to qualify as a weather forecaster, and also to research more about her autism. Misaki offers to help her with the Internet stuff, saying she will be Mayuko's senior ("homepage no senpai"). While she's going through Mayuko's graphics in her computer, she comes across some digital photos of Shinichi that Mayuko had taken during their date at the amusement park. Mayuko averts her eyes, saying that she is not supposed to be "seeing" Shinichi, even though she really wants to. Mayuko and Misaki goes to the hospital to visit Yohei, and runs into Shinichi in the hallway, but they pass by each other awkwardly, without any greeting. Later, Misaki goes to Shinichi's office and she tells him about how Mayuko's been working so hard in everything lately, and says that she believes Mayuko will be able to achieve her goals in everything she wants, except when it comes to a love relationship. She tells Shinichi how Mayuko really wants to see him and Shinichi says it's the same for him, except they can't because they've made a "yakusoku". Rina's in a hotel room, making love to Takuma when she suddenly notices a vivid scar on his shoulder, and it resembles what she'd seen in Mayuko's drawing. At the hospital, Akiko is telling Yohei how both his son and daughter are doing so well. Yohei is struggling to take his pills on his own. Outside, in the hospital waiting area, Chihiro gives Jun some flowers she'd brought for Yohei, and ask him why he hasn't gone to the study sessions and if he's meaning to give up on medicine. He says he hasn't but the study sessions aren't that useful, and also, he knows that Yohei never wanted him to do medicine because he wanted Jun to go into the family business. Jun wished that he wasn't the one Yohei had chosen, but Chihiro tries to comfort him, saying that his parents actually love him very much. Misaki emails Shinichi to meet her in the park, but when he gets there, he sees Mayuko who has also been tricked by Misaki to go there. Mayuko's flustered because they're not supposed to meet and Shinichi decides to go when Mayuko suggests that they sit with their backs to each other and just "talk to themselves"... so it won't be like they're meeting. Shinichi tells her about his work on autism, and she tells him about what she'd been doing with the homepage and her studies. Shinichi then tells her that he'd been very worried about her, and wondering what she had been thinking and worrying that she'd encountered problems. Mayuko replies that she's fine on her own and working hard, and Shinichi says that it's the same for him. She gets up to go, and Shinichi tells her to go to him if she has problems and she says she'll email him. Just before she leaves, she tells Shinichi to bring his umbrella tomorrow because it's going to rain... Mayuko visit Yohei in the hospital and she apologises to him for not being of any help and tells him that she will always treasure him, Akiko and Jun, and she'll always be by Yohei's side. Yohei beckons her to open the window and then says "arigatou". It's the first time he's spoken. At home, Mayuko emails Shinichi, calling him "Shinichi-san" and not sensei. She tells him that she now knows what loneliness is, and it's something she learned after she stopped seeing Shinichi, and the feeling is different from sorrow. She says that before, Tear was no longer there but in this case, Shinichi is still there, only they cannot meet. To her, the feeling is that something that should be there but is missing. Going to the park without Shinichi there fills her heart with loneliness ("Shinichi-san, sabishii...") But Mayuko says she is not going to put Shinichi behind her as part of her past; she wants to guard her memories of them together and says that knowing Shinichi is happy will help her keep those memories alive. If she feels lonely, it is because she cannot forget him. Rina goes to see Shinichi and tells him that she has discovered that Takuma used to have a wife and two sons but that 18 years ago, his eldest son drowned in an accident, but she suspects that may not be the case. She thinks Mayuko's drawing has something to do with this. Jun's at the hospital talking to his dad and apologizing for what he'd done before. Mayuko walks into the room, and then shortly after Takuma comes in to visit Yohei. Jun welcomes him and excuses himself. Takuma goes up to Yohei's bedside and while he's talking, Yohei knocks over the remote control on his bed and Takuma bends to recover it for him. Mayuko who's looking on from behind, gets a sudden flashback of her drawing and starts to panic. She leaves the room hurriedly and Takuma follows her. She runs outside and hides in the bushes, calling Shinichi for help. Shinichi finds her and asks her what's wrong, but she shakes her head, saying that she promised not to tell... - End of Episode Ten - |
