Dork Solo

May 15, 2002

Dork danced (Irish dancing) at the multi-cultural show at school so she borrowed a solo dress from her dance school. A solo dress is a heavy velvet dress used for when you compete solo in Irish dancing. It's got lots of Celtic embroidery on it and stuff. Well, Dork doesn't actually wear a solo dress when she competes, since she's just a novice. She wears a school costume that's plainer and actually easier to dance in so she's not complaining. Except that it takes a good fifteen minutes and she has to dislocate both shoulders to get the school dress off.  This particular solo dress is the only one that fits Dork at the school. It's approximately 235 thousand year olds and smells like it too. Okay, I'm kidding, but it does smell and it is old.

Here she is outside. Are the pink birds flamingoes or phoenixes??

And here's the back view of the cape. Okay, technically it's a shawl, but Dork likes to call it a cape.

Woo, she's um...Kicking the tree..

Sitting. I know, I know, this is very exciting. But look at the circular pattern that the...Ya, whatever.

For the record, the pink birds are flamingnixes (a crossbreed between flamingoes and phoenixes). Okay? I don't think they have flamingoes in Ireland. Not that you'd see phoenixes flying all over the place if you went to Ireland either. But don't listen to me, I've never been there.

Dork with her dad at the Detroit Feis (June 1, 02). She's wearing her school dress. She got second place in her light jig. Yay.

Dork got her hair done for the feis, since it's supposed to be curly for feis'. Apparently all Irish people (or at least the ones who dance) have curly hair. The reason they give is that it makes you look more bouncy when you dance...Which is apparently good. I took the liberty of drawing on Dork's face since the flash erased it.
