New free ISP with unlimited access to be offered by http://www.lowestbids.com/ in July. They claim free internet forever. What's the catch? You have to shop and buy from them.

The following is a transcript of an "instant help" chat that I just had with a rep. from the site. I was writing under the username "reets."

Hi reets! Welcome to Lowestbids Live Chat.
Please wait for the next available representative...
Hi my name is BART how can I help you today?
BART >> Hello, how may I assist you?
reets >> Every path to your new free ISP service produces an
error message.
BART >> Yes we know, right now our sites are going through all of the beta testing
BART >> so there will some problems with it
BART >> We have the basics down, we are just linking the missing pieces right now
reets >> When do you expect to have it fixed? Why offer a chance to get info. if you can't deliver the info yet?
BART >> We have to start from the beginning
BART >> so having to site up, we can test it alot easier
BART >> We did note this on our message board to let our users know what was going on
reets >> I don't know, Bart, it doesn't seem hard to simply have INFO providing functions work. That's different from having the actual ISP work.
BART >> It should be up and running without nest week
reets >> Including simply getting info. on it without error messages?
BART >> Well we did worn everyone of this error message
BART >> you're right, but with such a great advancement in such a short time we are bound to run into problems
BART >> until we perfect it
reets >> There are two: one if you access ISP info. from the frame on the left and one if you access it from the popup ad. That's TWO sources of error messages, FYI. Thank You.
BART >> We ask that you please be patient and in return you won't have to pay 25 dollars a month for the service
reets >> Thank you very much. One more time: when do you expect to simply provide INFO without error messages?
BART >> One more time, in about 1-2 weeks
reets >> Sorry I didn't catch that. Thank you very much for your answers.
BART >> Your welcome
BART >> Have a good day
BART >> And sorry for the inconvienence [END]

I had a conversation with one of the technical support representatives. They said that it is optional to buy or sell for 1web. Below is the conversation.

I am guest and the representative is Maryjane.

MARYJANE >> hello
guest >> hello
guest >> i would like to know what you have to do to get the
free isp?
MARYJANE >> you would just have to sign up and when the isp goes online you will be notified through email
MARYJANE >> hello?
guest >> it says on the website it is free when you shop and
buy on the 1web network
guest >> what does that mean
guest >> ?
guest >> hello?
MARYJANE >> when you sign up you will be signed up for all the sites we provide service to, i web network is one of those sites
guest >> but will there be a minimum amount of times you hav
e to shop on the 1web network?
MARYJANE >> no
guest >> ok
MARYJANE >> the free isp is free
guest >> so will it be optional?
MARYJANE >> yes
guest >> allright
MARYJANE >> was there anything else i can help you with ?
guest >> no thank you
guest >> thanks
guest >> bye
MARYJANE >> good bye

From my conversation posted below, and the above conversations, they are saying that the initial information on their graphic was wrong! THERE IS NO REQUIREMENT OR LIMITATION ON THEIR FREE ISP (Assuming it ever launches)!

What does everyone else think?

It hasn't been launched yet. They will begin on July 1st, 2001. I'm assuming they will have a banner ad. For right now, we can only assume how the software will be. I signed up for it. I will be notified in the email when to download the software. If you have any questions about it, you should contact them.

Hi,

This sounds a lot like another SCAM. They get your signup information with the promise that will get free access and you get nothing but spam.

The chat I had, the guy told me I would get a free ISP. I asked,"I'll own my own ISP?". His reply was "Yes, you will. But the site is not fully working yet. Just signup ....."

I smell SCAM,

Yup, It 'is' a scam.

Never got any mail from them after "signing up" (giving them my information to sell). And here is what I get trying to email them.

"This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.

Unable to deliver message to the following recipients, due to being unable to connect
successfully to the destination mail server.

info@webwideisp.com"

Bogus Scam Ripoff site.

Pure and simple.

That's unusual. I've gotten two email messages from them, already. Also, what's with the " after info@webwideisp.com? Could that have affected your email delivery?

Cat, since you've gotten a couple of emails from them, what's your feeling about them? Do you think they have "all their ducks in a row"?

Oops! I got two email messages from the itsnotaol free ISP, not LowestBids. I do have this message from LowestBids. You can come up with your own conclusions. I think they could be legit. I'm not convinced that they are a scam. However, can they be true to their promises? That's the big question. Will they be able to launch their FISP in July? Remember Surf4nix. They never did launch their free ISP in January. I have my doubts they can come up with a free ISP at their launch date. We should see.

"I am writing this to let you know of all the great new changes and additions to LowestBids.com.

We have launched a whole new look to http://www.lowestbids.com/.
It is easier to navigate and much simpler to use.

We have also launched our .1web network of sites.

You can now create a free website as well as add your auctions to our Marketplace.

Also starting July 1st, 2001 we will be launching our FREE Unlimited Internet Access.

We would like you to come back and see all the new improvements"

I don't know much about the free isp but if I get any new info I'll pass it on.

Allshack sure sucks big time. I installed their free service and the next day they suspended operations. I tried to remove their software but not all of it goes away and everytime I boot up their stupid dialog box pops up like a spring. I have tried to call their support number but it is no longer in service. No wonder they are in trouble cuz they suck even more than blue light. Bye bye allshack and stay away for ever.
